Cases - Again

Hi Everyone,

Several months ago while investigating CGM, I asked about cases for the Dexcom Seven Plus. A few people reccommended a case through Verizon Wireless for the LG Chocolate phone. Well, I finally have received my CGM, am reading the manual, and looking forward to getting started. When I went back to the Verizon link, it lists the item as "out of stock" There is no product number listing or ID. I presume that as it is an older phone the case has been discontinued. I looked on E-bay to see if I could locate one without success. Does anyone who has one of these cases know the product number, or have any suggestions? I plan to check a few of the local Verizon dealers to see if they may have one of these cases sitting on a shelf collecting dust. Many of the cases on E-bay had magnetic clasps -didn't think that was such a good idea. Short of that, I will check out the local Target/Walmart or other cell phone places to find a case that suits my needs. Thanks.

David

I’ve been using one of these to carry around my D7+ receiver:

http://www.duluthtrading.com/searches/97755.aspx?feature=product_4

and am very happy. It’s rugged as heck, and just looks like a heavy canvas cell holster.

The image on the site makes it look like the logo really pops out - on mine, the logo is embroidered in black thread on the black case, so it’s really barely noticeable.

My problem is that the metal clips that fasten any of these cell phone type cases (including the original DexCom case) to my belt are unreliable. When I sit down and get up from chairs with arms the case is released from my belt and this happened several times without my being aware. I have modified my original DexCom case by removing the belt clip and replacing it with a loop. Goto my topic “Simple Surgery on My DexCom Case” and look for the PDF file I uploaded. It shows how I fashioned a neat loop and a nice label. Check it out…… Now I wear the DexCom as a lanyard informally or I thread the loop through my belt with a cow hitch when I go out in public. If you make the loop much shorter than I did you can then use a carabineer or retractible keey chain to hold onto the receiver. This is a far more reliable system than any other case.

that case looks good but the verizon case has a window that fits the Dex screen so it makes it perfect. You can look at the screen without having to take it out of the case.

I use the original generation PDM Omnipod case. It fits great and the clip works well with staying on.

Andrew,
I just bought one and it also fits my Omnipod PDM. When Dex and Omni integrate I will just need this. I now carry one in my pocket and the other in the case.

Thanx for the suggestion.

I dont know if you looked on the dex website for cases but they have a sports case that zips up and the front is clear so you can see the screen and push the buttons without taking it out. Its not too pretty but it stays on your belt real well. I wear it running and at the gym and it has never fallen off. Its a soft case but overall i really like it. I think its around 15$ on the dexcom website. Its a nice case for the receiver

I’ve had two of those sport cases, and they both fell apart. The stitching that connects the pouch to the canvas band where the clip attaches tears off after couple months’ use.

I wonder why Verizon website shows me that I can purchase it still? Is it just in certain areas of US that can still buy it? Here is the link for the Verizon case for $1.97… forgot to mention, if you do a search, do a search on “Pouch with Swivel Clip and Wristlet” in Verizon Wireless.

I have a picture of the Verizon case on my page (if you click on my face). I also have a picture of the case I use when I take kids swimming (Lewis & Clark case I got through Amazon which is much cheaper than the camera shops).

Hope you can get one of the cases. I have been using this case since May, 2009, and the clip really holds on to clothing a lot better than the Dexcom case.

Hey, cool! Glad I could help.

I've been happy with this. Attaches with a carabiner to my belt loop.

Hi there, I am curious if any of you have considered using a case like the Invisapump case that hides the pump under your clothes. Yes, I am the inventor/owner of Invisapump (www.invisapump.com) and am thinking about designing a case to fit the Dexcom. Some people have bought the Invisapump for the Minimed Guardian CGM. I am open to any comments or feedback to see if this would be viable option for the Dexcom.

Thanks, Chuck

I keep my dex receiver in this great case:

http://store.spibelt.com/Spibelt-p/spibeltparent1.htm.

It’s really affordable and high quality. And they aren’t lying on the website - it is really secure and doesn’t move around on your waist. They also have pouches that you can attach directly to your own belt and pouches designed for insulin pumps (with a hole for the tubing to be fed through). The only downside is that you have to unzip to read the screen on the dex.

I hope you have success finding the right case!

Bryan,
Thanks for the case. I started my Dexcom use yesterday. The Dexcom trainer had never seen that case, and was impressed. The last 24 hours have been very enlightening, and I look forward to using this new tool to achieve even better BG control. Thanks to all for your suggestions and replies.

maybe someday CGM receivers can have a small display (no trend graph, just latest reading and trend arrow) on the side of the case so that you can glance at latest reading and trend arrow without having to take it out of the holster or angle it to read the main display. Or, an extra small mini-receiver on a necklace or so thin that you attach it directly to a belt loop and easily flip it/angle it to see latest reading.

What is this? It looks like it may work for me.

I’ve been using a Spibelt for quite awhile now. I put it thru my jeans beltloops. www.spibelt.com

I'm posting this here, and in the "(Clip for Dex" thread).

Not long after I got the DexCom in 2009, May, I found a leather cell phone case at a street fair that fit and worked perfectly. When I first read discussions about this, I couldn't remember anything about manufacturer, etc. Due to constant use, it finally wore out a month ago, so I set out to find a replacement. The case cover actually had the manufacturer's name on it -- "Reiko"--but no model number or size information (heck, it fit the DexCom...!). So I found Reiko's web site (seems they mainly sell wholesale to resellers, hence me finding the first one at a street fair), and wouldn't ya know it but they have hundreds of sizes and model numbers, but no dimensions given, just which cell phone they were intended for. I found three that looked very similar to the one I had, and I found an on-line store where I ordered all three.

So good news! One of them that I ordered fits the DexCom perfectly. Write this down: "Reiko Model HP102A-TREO650BR" (the "BR" at the end is for "brown"--they may have other colors--I leave that as an exercise for you!).

Here are some pics:

Note that the cover is magnetic. It has never interfered with data transmission (Note to the physicists and EEs here: this is for the benefit of those who don't understand the difference between a static magnetic field and a dynamic one). The hole at the bottom of the case makes it really easy to get the DexCom out for a look. The combination of a belt clip and belt loops pretty much make it wearable on anything you have. The leather is sturdy and well-sewn, although constant use over two-and-a-half years wore my previous one out. So I'm probably gonna order some extras--the place I found this one is called Teptronics.com, and the price was $2.99 each (I paid more for USPS shipping than I did for three different cases!!!)!!!

I hope this is helpful to everyone!
