CGM and Omnipod or just Omnipod

Just an update on my situation…i have been wearing the omnipod for 3 days. Had a successful change today. I would have benefited tremendously having the CGM. Still working out the details though and I hope to get it soon. I took my bg 8 times today.

Thanks for keeping us updated, and congrats on a successful site change! That’s a big hurtle! The CGM will be a wonderful addition to your regimen, as others have said. Even if it means wearing 2 devices. That part, I will say, I’m still adjusting to honestly (almost a year after diagnosis). Some days, as I recently wrote on another thread, I still battle not going insane with it and just ripping them both off. But for the most part I’ve acclimated. And sometimes that Omnipod click is the most reassuring sound.

Probably TMI, but I think one of the more difficult aspects of pump and CGM life is not being able to be naked. Not that I’m a nudist, but it is still taking effort to feel comfortable in that way. And sometimes I long to be unencumbered with it all. That part has been a weird grieving process of sorts.

It sounds like you’re making the adjustments well. Bravo!

One other thing about obtaining a CGM. Sometimes with a diagnosis of Type 2, insurance companies will not cover it. I remember reading that you had been diagnosed with Type 2 26 years ago. Is that right? Have you been tested for antibodies recently? If not, perhaps you could be. It’s a simple blood test. If you tested positive for antibodies (all sorts of threads on that here), your diagnosis would not be Type 2, and you might qualify more easily for a CGM.

That is the exact issue that I am having with the CGM. My insurance already said that would be one reason to deny me is the fact that I am type 2. It been a few years since I have taken the peptide test. My doctor is confident that I am type 2. She has sent over medical records and such to insulet…not sure if I am gonna qualify but if it is to be it will be.

I’m sorry to hear that is the difficulty you are having!

But c-peptide is not going to help you with this. You’ll have to have labs drawn that specifically test for antibodies.

Am I missing any?

If your doctor is so convinced before she’s seen the data, perhaps it’s time to consider a second opinion? Many, many people in our community are misdiagnosed at first. A blood test is by no means an unreasonable request and yet many of us have to press for it. I did, over against my (former) NP’s reluctance.

Hello everyone, just wanted to give an update…i got the CGM! My insurance said that the company had to send it to me then make a claim…no prior authorization was needed. So keeping my faith. I have an appointment with the diabetes educator on it next week…very busy schedule on my part. This is week 3 on the omnipod. I have tried an alternative site other than my arms and stomach and I am pretty satisfied. I am still facing eating challenges…dont feel deprived but overwhelmed with all the counting. In all I would say smooth trasitions.

“HILARIOUS!” says schleima, ten years later.

Currently Omnipod Horizon (the hybrid closed loop system which integrates Dexcom CGM into the Omnipod Dash PDM) is slated to be released early 2021.

I am a type 2 who is being treated with insulin exactly like a Type 1 would be and have been a part of the Loop study for the past year. I am an Android person, rocking the Galaxy S10+. Unfortunately, loop only works on Apple, so I got a used iPhone SE which I recently upgraded to a 6S and absolutely LOVE carying 2 phones and having 2 things attached to me - the Dexcom G6 as well as the Omnipod original.

I love that I can use the Dexcom app and thus my endo can track my results on Clarity while still seeing my data on a web site called Heroku (see https://bradsxdrip.herokuapp.com if you want to see my data. Don’t judge me! ) as well as on my Android Wear OS Watch.

I still recommend Loop. There is great support on Facebook and elsewhere.

If you want to learn more, check out LoopDocs .

It will be quite some time before anything comparable comes out.

I used to use the Medtronic 630 but I grew tired of the tethering/tubing and having to disconnect all the time. With the Omnipod, I can change it really quick and never have to disconnect at all.

If you have any questions about either, ask away or feel free to PM me.
