Chocolate - Yes, No, Maybe?

So what’s the word on Choclate…Yes, Maybe…and if so how often.

Oh HECK YEA!! CHOCOLATE !! As often as possible. Isn’t chocolate hormone therapy?? (hehe) As long as I cover the carbs, there is nothing I will deprive myself of.

Chocolate is GOOD for you - and dark chocolate, at least, actually is high in fiber - I cover my chocolate cravings by having a cup of hot cocoa made with Hersey’s Special Dark Cocoa, Soy Milk (I’m lactose intolerant) and Splenda - then - of course - I allow myself the occasional piece of dark chocolate also.

Carole, whose average sensor BS for the past 30 days is 135 even with chocolate on the menu

I thought I was the only one who was on to Hershey’s Special Dark mixed with Splenda…I call it mud, and I have been having it most mornings. So good, and with 6 carbs for the cocoa and not much, if any, for the Splenda, I don’t feel like I’m doing anything naughty.

I have also found some 85% cacao content chocolate bars, very small ones, by the Green and Black chocolate company (available at Whole Foods and lots of other places, at least in NYC.) I believe the whole bar, albeit small, was 10 carbs. Not low cal to be sure, but so worth it every once in a while.

I have some every single day! Always dark chocolate, which is relatively low in carbs if its at least 70% cocoa. I have it either in dark choc flax oil truffles by Bija or dark choc covered almonds from Trader Joes or just a lil piece of solid dark choc. I never have to shoot up. Lots of antioxidants. And a little taste is all you need!

All of you have just made my day…God Bless Ya! Keep bringing the good news.

I still eat chocolate sometimes, but I just make sure I dont go crazy on it and stay on to of bg checks

Life without chocolate–no way! It’s one the basic food groups:)

I stick to the 85% dark chocolate, which I like better anyway. Dark cocoa powder in hot unsweetened vanilla almond milk, or in almond milk shakes with protein powder–yum! Only 3 carbs per TBS. Unsweetened baker’s chocolate melted with a bit of sweetener is heaven.

Enjoy your chocolate!

Judith,

Can’t wait to get this recipe & yours for the cheesecake you mentioned!

i love chocolate. i’m a pastry chef. the two go great together!! haha. i’ve found that small amounts of plain semisweet or dark chocolate won’t budge my bs. chocolate doesn’t hurt my numbers until other stuff is added or mixed with it like sugary peanutbutter or caramel or milk and sugar to make milk chocolate. dark chocolate contains a lot of antioxidants. good for your heart!! plus nothing brightens my mood better in the morning than a small handful of semisweet chocolate chips…yumm
