I sent in all my paperwork to start the process of getting approved for a Dex7. This was the third week of June. I made sure it was all complete. They called over two weeks ago to let me know what my out of pocket would be......but hadn't considered that I am covered by two companies. (They had all information for both insurance companies).
She said she would recalculate and recontact me.........I haven't heard a word since.
Is this a normal amount of time to wait on this info? What was your timeframe?
Took about 2 weeks from the time I submitted my paperwork to the time my Dex arrived by Fedex. I only had one insurance company to deal with but they needed charts from my doctor before they would submit to my insurance company. I had to call my Dex area rep, probably, three times and my doctor twice to make sure they each had the correct phone numbers and fax numbers to get the information back and forth between one another and that needed information was getting passed along.
I’d give your Dex rep a call to see what’s going on.
Brenda,
Check with each carrier to see if they have the claim. They may be playing “chicken” over Coordination of Benefits (COB). Each is saying the other is primary. Make sure this is not happening. Also, check with Dexcom. They have a good insurance department. Work with them and be proactive on getting the paperwork rolling.
I had to play hard ball with my insurance including getting the state insurance commissioner to apply some lubrication to get the wheels turning.
Good luck with this- my experience with them was horrible and extremely frustrating. I was told that I was “pre-approved” and received everything by FedEx shortly thereafter. I had some problems with bad sensors, but they were pretty good about replacing them. Then I got a call and they said they needed more information which started weeks of paperwork from doctors, etc. They told me that “pre-approved” only meant that my insurance company had some sort of contract or understanding with Dexcom, despite my insurance company denying my claim saying that it was an “experimental medical device”. Huh?
Very long story short- Dexcom said I’d have to pay for it because the return period was up, I made a big stink and they said I could keep it. Kept calling customer service to see what was happening with the appeal to my insurance and always got a promise to call back and let me know, which never happened. After a half dozen times and no returned calls, I quit.
That was about a year ago, and the thing has been sitting in the closet ever since. I just gave up on them- it wasn’t worth it in the end. I wouldn’t do it again- I doubt they’ll last in the market with this sort of thing going on.
