Dexcom G4 and Animas Question

Does anyone know if we need to also purchase the stand alone Dexcom G4 Platinum unit in addition to the Vibe? I got an email from Dexcom saying to call them because they understand I am getting the Vibe and am interested in their Dexcom G4 PLatinum.

The whole point for me is getting the sensors only from Dexcom and using the Vibe as my CGM. I know the standalone unit is slightly more accurate, but probably not enough for me to care. I mostly think I will be using this unit to try to see if there are any harmful trends.

I am up for a new pump in June but am doing the upgrade to the Vibe.

Also - it seems to me that Animas has not thought this thing out very well. If the Dexcom product is integrated with theirs, it seems to me they should be a reseller for the Dexcom sensors. I am sure that if you are on a Medtronic system, you are not buying your supplies from 2 different sources.

I am beginning to think maybe I will stay with the Ping. We have United Healthcare and I suspect I am going to have to buy the sensors from Edgepark. My past experience with Edgepark was a nightmare. They never check your insurance for coverage and then won't take anything back that was shipped. This is a problem if you suddenly lose your job or your insurance changes and Edgepark is not an approved vendor with your new insurance.

The Vibe is meant to replace the Dexcom receiver, but you do need the transmitter. Not sure if Dexcom is now selling those separately to Vibe wearers.

Susan, I have UHC as well but it is a Medicare Advantage plan.
The Dex rep and my D care folks are working at getting me the receiver as well. The Dex rep seems to believe I can get it with no copay...we shall see.

My Ping is well over 4 years old and is starting to have slight degradations so replacing it has to happen. Not carrying an extra device(the receiver) is attractive to me but I do like the option of having the slightly more accurate version of the receiver. Choices are a great thing
There's a wrench for every nut. If I were a woman, the Ping probably would be more attractive because of the remote.

UHC Florida version dropped Edgepark as a DME last year after I'd used them for quite awhile. I've split by supplies over to Target for my strips and Animas for the pump supplies. So far, so good. It was a truly righteous PITA to figure out why Edgepark would no longer ship supplies since nobody at UHC seemed clued in when it happened...can't tell you how many very long calls I had with them...I was not a happy camper.

That is what I thought. I was perplexed by the email.

It may be that Dexcom needs to know which system you will be using - not that it affects the supplies. But the Vibe has Dexcom 4 software 9very accurate I loved it ) and the stand alone has the updated Dexcom5 software. I have always found the Dexcom customer service to be outstanding by the way.

Thanks!
