Dexcom on the back

Had to delete post - sorry.

That is good to know. I have worn my Omnipod on my back several times and there have been a few when it didnt work. The person on the help desk that I talked to about the problems I’ve had with the Omni said it might be that there isnt enough fat for the needle to go into. I think there is but who knows…

I may have to break down and try one there. The only problem is the sensors are so expensive (if you dont have insurance) that I would hate to try one and then have it not work. But it is good to know someone else has tried and liked it.

It’s not that bad of a reach. I wouldn’t do it as the first or second try, but with some experience with the process it’s pretty easy to insert it – it is more side-back but I seem to have enough, ahem, “tissue” to pinch up on the area. It was easier to do than I thought it would be.

I wear my sensor in the same spot…never had any issues with that.

Are there any other sites besides the side/stomach that people have tried. I could see running out of area to place the pump set as well as the sensor.

I know my friend’s daughter is on the Omnipod, and she wears her pod on one arm and the Dex on the other. So I guess the arm works. Also - I know a trainer showed one kid to wear it on his upper butt - so that’s another place I know has been tried and worked.

I wear mine there too. It is the best location I have found. It doesn’t get in the way of anything, including yoga, which I had problems with when I wore the sensor on my stomach.

Exactly where? I don’t have a whole bunch to grab onto. Do you apply the sesor yourself? Is it uncomfortable for you in that location?

Mike, I apply it myself. I don’t have alot to grab onto either, but there is enough. It’s not so hard to reach around. I place it so the sensor is towards the front of my body (whether it’s on the right side or the left). You don’t really have to be ambidextrous to do it. It’s important to make sure you’re below the lowest rib. But not so low that it gets in the way of belts. I stay at that level and vary it slightly, sometimes a bit more towards the back, or a bit more towards the front, just enough so that the older sensor insertion point gets some air and can heal. I don’t pump at this time, but if I did, I’d probably put one on the right and one on the left.

My son has almost nothing to grab - we don’t even bother trying to pinch up - all I can get is skin. Every sensor comes out bent, but it seems to work okay anyway.

Curious… Are you talking about love handles? How much fat would be necessary? My niece has no fat on her back, nor love handles. But maybe you are able to insert in the back with just a tiny, tiny bit of fat? It would be nice to have an alternate location to try and this does sound like a good spot for fall/winter as it is covered by clothing.

I posted pictures of my son above - he doesn’t really have much fat there either.

I use the thigh – imagine the area underneath a front pants pocket. I love it there, and I get great readings.

I thought about trying that spot but was concerned that my pants would constantly be rubbing on it and that would be uncomfortable.

Wouldn’t the area on the front of the thigh be too muscular? Does the sensor bump up against muscle similar to a pump infusion set? Does that matter?

I don’t have my CGMS yet, but once when I put an infusion set there… I cursed up a storm and I am usually not a bad mouthed person. I ran track and cross country for 6 years and maybe my muscular legs didn’t agree with it. It was a horrible experience, I snatched that bad boy out with a quickness… and then it bled…
