My BS has been in the blah range since I woke up this morning. This is my off week with my exercise program, so I woke up later. I have a different basal pattern to match days like this, and normally it seems fine.
My CGM showed it around 90-110 throughout the night, then my alarm clock went off at 7am. I stayed in bed for a few more minutes, and the next time I looked at my CGM, about 20 or so minutes later, I was shooting up rapidly at 130 mg/dl. Checked with my meter and I was already at 155.
SIGH
Did a correction bolus, and went on my way.
Correction bolus didn’t do the trick though. I guess it kept it from going too much higher, but it didn’t lower it, that’s for sure. It’s now near 11:30am (I’ve had breakfast and another correction bolus or two since getting to work) and I’m at 175. Just did an extra correction out of spite… my pump of course telling me I didn’t need anymore, but it’s been over an hour and I’m still climbing, so I’ve concluded my pump is full of ■■■■.
That’s the thing about the bolus wizard: it doesn’t take into account if you’re on the rise or on the fall. So what it calculates for my correction boluses are rarely what I actually need. I guess that’s what my CGM is for!
Haha. The only problem there of course, which I’ve mentioned here before, is that I have a tendency to over-correct when my BS won’t come down like I expect.
Now is probably one of those times. Or maybe not! None of my extra correction boluses have put me under 150 this entire morning, so maybe this one (3u) won’t either.
Anyway. Trying to figure out the cause of this annoyance. I ate out last night. Badly. Mexican food. Lots of carbs and lots of fat. I’m wondering if the problems I’m having now are the after-effects of the fat. It seems a little late, but I didn’t spike during the night, like I expected to.
It seems like lately every time I have one of my bad meals (basic normal-person meal at a restaurant), it hits me 8-10 hours later and is difficult to get down with a normal correction for the next 4 hours at least. This time though, it’s well over 12 hours since dinner last night. So I don’t know.
It’s really interfering with my day though. I have an extra hard time getting my BS down when I eat while I’m high. It was high when I couldn’t put off eating breakfast anymore; and of course breakfast made it worse. And now it seems it’s still going to be high at lunch. UGH.
