I’ve decided that a nice cold cup of Tropicana or Florida’s Natural orange juice is my favorite low blood sugar treatment.
Its the right mix of sweet and tart. It works quickly and the sugar police don’t give me the evil eye if I drink it in public.
An orange. Or half if I’m not too low. I peel an orange every morning and carry the segments in a plastic bag so I can get to them easily. Low blood sugar and a sharp knife are a combination I need to avoid
I tried the rapid glucose spray recently thinking it would be quicker and easier and I don’t think it works as well as the glucose tabs. I’ve used it twice and both times I’ve had to have some juice on top of it. So, I’d have to say that the watermelon glucose tabs are my fav. Anyone else try the spray?
Thanks for the laugh about the low blood sugar and a knife combination Libby. That was a good one. I like the honey for at home and keep a small zip lock bag of M&M’s in my purse. It is easy to take only a few of those. I used to keep a small, fun size bar of candy in my purse, but that gets too messy when it gets warm.
My doctor’s favorite low treatment of choice for me is 8 oz of milk with 3 tablespoons of sugar. I used to love milk, but this has made me hate milk if I have several lows in one day.
For me, the most effective, rapid treatment is something with corn syrup, like Twizzlers, gumdrops or jellybeans. However, they are all a poor choice because I cannot have a portioned amount, particularly when I’m in that “crazed hunger” state of a hypo - I’ve even tried putting 15 gm portions in little baggies, but I just keep plowing through the lot.
So, it’s glucose tabs for me. No temptation whatsoever to overdo on them. I hate that chalky texture, especially if you don’t have any water nearby. But, they are small and convenient to carry with you at all times, which is most important.
I was dx’d in '74 and they didn’t have glucose tabs. I had to carry sugar cubes wrapped in tinfoil in my purse, and they always crumbled and leaked all over.
If I’m at home: peanut butter, a little mt. dew, sour patch kids, fruit snacks, or some type of juice. No I don’t have all of it at once. I normally pick 1
If I’m out: fruit snacks, or glucose tabs; fruit punch are my favorite!
yes i have tried many things before ,tropicana is the real trouble shooter. easy tocarry in our bag and handy all the time
We all have voices in our heads which talks to us on an almost constant basis. Our voices give us messages continually and what they say to us affects us.
DEX 4 …all flavours except orange …it is available in liquid as well …have a bottle at home, not tried .If I can recollect , the liquid was excepted through airport scanner , carrying " it " in my back pack .
And the odd time I used to get into arrowroot cookies ( long time ago ) … Do not buy anymore …
This morning a whole banana …30 grams of carbs ??? An opportunity to eat one, while a low and doing my morning stint of exercise …the procedure worked …blessed I was.
