Does anyone actually use the food database on their pump?
Hi/G'day Cherylou,
I do use the database but it maybe because of the novelty factor still. Interesting to see how long it lasts but for the time being it is handy.
I have written my own database in MS Access to maintain the foods as I don't like using Diasend to do it, it is cumbersome, awkward and has bugs.
Hi Glen
I use the My Fitness Pal on my Smartphone and iPad to check carb values. It’s really cool as you can scan barcode of foods and it has most of the foods that I use. I need to find out how to upload a database of foods to the Vibe as the one on Diasend isn’t so great.
Cheers
Cheryl
I don´t, but that´s because I haven´t found it yet. I´m only two weeks into my first Animas pump so this is all new to mee. I count carbs and put them in manually in EzCarb.
Uploaded first time to www.diasend.com two days ago and understand that´s where I can download the food database. I´ll look into it.
I’ve had a very quick look on Diasend, Siri. I too got my first Animas pump, a Vibe, a few weeks ago. Had an Accucheck Spirit before that. Been a crazy few weeks, but on holiday soon so hopefully I’ll have an opportunity to look into the food database then. Just thinking that it would be handy to have it all on the pump.
Cheers
Cheryl
Seems we are all new to Animas, switched from Medtronic in Feb
Once you are in the Diasend site click on the 'Tools' tab. You will need to download the 'Diasend Food Loader'(located at bottom of page) and install on your PC/Mac.
There is a sample food database(Carbs & Cals 500 food items) you can import into your list of available lists, it is towards the bottom of the page too. A lot we don't have here in Oz and with it being full(list has a max of 500 items) you'll have to delete some so you can add your own or you could start a list from scratch.
Once you are done editing the list don't forget to click 'Apply Changes' at the bottom to save your changes. Log out of Diasend(you'll get errors if you don't) and run the Diasend Food Loader, log in with the same username/password used for Diasend and you have two options, the bottom one is where you choose a food list your saved on Diasend and download it to your pump.
Best way to learn it is to have a play. Some minor annoyances I have with it are when entering a new food item and moving to enter another it seems to overwrite the food category you had selected and there seems to be no way to alphabetically sort the food items within each category. Maybe I just haven't found a way to do it.
I wrote my database so I can have a master list of greater then 500 and easily select from it the foods to be used(still limited to 500) and have them sorted so easier to find once on the pump. Once I export my food list from the database to get it onto my pump I still need to go via Diasend and the Food Loader program.
Hope I haven't caused too much confusion. Is handy when having a hot chocolate and 3 tim tams but can't be bothered with the math ;-)
Cheers

Hi Glen, thanks for that. To be honest, I’ve had a rough few weeks at work on top of the new pump, CGM, etc. I plan to spend some time playing around with the food loader, but feeling too overwhelmed at the moment
Cheers

Thank you so much for instructions, Glen. I will look into it, probably after the summer holidays.
Good luck to you, Cheryl. I found the Vibe so useful yesterday when playing golf (tournament) and it rained for 5 hours straight. I just pulled out the Vibe and didn´t care about the water pouring. Nice feature indeed.
Hope things calm down for you soon.
I didn't get the Dexcom. Will have to wait till they get onto the NDSS so I'll just have to cast jealous looks westwards for now!
Like I said, when you get a chance have a play and you'll adding foods and downloading brfore you know it.
Thanks, Glen and Siri. Nice to chat to others that “get it”. I really hope that the Dexcom gets onto NDSS soon as I can’t really afford it long term either. It is very cool though
LOL, back when I was using my Medtronic pump I was living at Warakurna (aka Giles) in REMOTE Western Australia (Cherylou might know it), I went to jump across a waterhole and in I went. A waterproof Vibe would have been good then! The Pump was fine but it was a moment or two where my heart stopped and all I could think was GET THE PUMP UP OUT OF THE WATER!!!!
That database has too much crappy processed food I’d never eat. I use ez carb.
No. It's not very good.
Easily fixed.....delete the crappy foods and enter your own. There are some people out there that like what others consider 'crappy processed food' and no matter what is put in the initial list there will never be a food list that will suit everyone.
I have imported the example list into my database but most of the foods I have loaded onto my pump are the ones I have entered myself. Being able to tailor it to suit the individual is the only this sort of thing could work.
I don't want to read all the way through this...Lazy...sorry...But does the Vibe food data base work with Windows 7 & 8 ? The ping does not and it made me very ANGRY AS I DID NOT FIND THAT OUT UNTIL AFTER PURCHASE...I like punching in exact carbs now that I am back in control on the Ping when BS was over 300 for me I had more freedom with carbs/insulin ...I loved the idea of using the database from the remote and the cgm being integrated...both a HUGE disappointment....I felt like I had a hard pitch from the sales dept...and I didn't read the fine print so whats a person to do :( (PS now I also use My Fitness PAL but its a nuisance to go back and forth)
I have been using the programs on Win7 with no problems, apart from the design/bugs of the Diasend website you must use as well.
I think that the food database is actually in the meter. But no, I’ve never used it once. I’ve been carb counting for so long that I’m fairly comfortable just winging it. If I need more info, I use Calorie King on my phone.
I rsrely use the Ping meter because it is so slow and clunky. The communication with the pump is slow and I find the scrolling on the meter more difficult than on the pump.
With the Vibe the Food List is stored on the pump itself(not sure about the Ping as we don't have it here).
I would use Calorie King as well as I have used their desktop version in the past BUT if they can't get their act together, wake up and realise that Apple is NOT the 'be all and end all' and release an Android version then I have written them off and use alternatives.
