Gotta Tell Someone

I am just so exicted, and can’t post on Facebook…I’m almost 35 and can’t tell my mom (or let her know yet). she doesn’t know much of anything of my diabetes. She has no idea that my A1c is 12, but i am commited to make a change and greatly improve my numbers. i got a call from Medtronic today and i am going to be getting a pump in a few weeks. at first i wasn’t excited, but less than 12 hours later, i am so exicted i can’t hardly stand it!!! my husband is even more excited than me! it was hard to give my credit card number to pay my portion of the pump (what insurance didn’t cover…$1400) but my life is worth it, right? i know this is not a miricle fix to my diabetes, but i sure hope it helps give me the boost that i need to take the bull by the horns and change my life sytle…thank goodness for Tudiabetes and the support i gain from it!!! wish me luck with my new pump!! wooohooo!

Congrats Karen! My pump is life-changing. You’re right, it’s a tool, and there is a learning curve. You’ll get tons of support here, just ask! All the concerns you have, or haven’t had yet, will work out. Good for you for making the steps to take charge!

Good luck with the pump.

Good for you, Karen!! The pump takes a lot of work in the beginning in order to get your basals right, insulin sensitivity right and insulin:carb ratios right, so don’t be disappointed if your numbers are not where you want them to be for the first couple of months. But later, when you have things worked out, the pump becomes easier than shots, simply because it calculates boluses for you, and if you pay attention to it, it won’t let you stack insulin doses, and therefore you may experience fewer lows. Which, paradoxically, can raise A1c, but don’t let that throw you – reducing the number of lows is a real quality-of-life booster! You can also work on your eating patterns, and become more accurate in your carb counting. I really hope this works for you, because you need a healthy long life!

Congrats!! And Good luck.

I feel you on the pump excitement and not being able to post on FB, lol! It’s always tempting to go on FB and make a comment about some great thing… then i’m like, wait no… nobody there will understand what the heck i’m talking about. Sigh… but at least we have TuD for us! Oh, and you are in for a treat with the pump! I’ve only been pumping 2 weeks or so but it’s been great! Small learning curve as with anything, but it’s like driving a car, learn all the knobs n buttons in first day or two and it’s mindless driving fun after that! (Just don’t try to put it on auto-pilot and go in the back for a sammich =)

it’s final…the insurance company has approved my pump and it is in the mail, should get it on Monday. I have struggled to find a new Endo…but I have! I have an appt this afternoon, it has been almost 2 years since i have seen an Endo. I’m pretty excited and scared at the same time. i hope this new dr. is a good one, my current primary care dr. is a ■■■. Good luck to me

Congrats Karen! I’m sure you’ll love it as much as I do.

Way to go, Karen! It’s going to be a lot of work, and probably no immediate gratification, but stick to it during the learning curve, and I bet it will be the best thing you ever did for yourself!

thanks everyone!!!
