Good read on why trump won… I found it enlightening and hope more people read it— don’t be put off by the seemingly inflammatory title it’s not really like that IMO

Okay. This is really not the form for this discussion. I’m sorry you are so upset and angry. I agree, Donald Trump has spoken poorly more times than I like. But he is not the things you have listed. A xenophobe who is married to an immigrant. An anti-somatic who is personal friends with the Prime Minister of Israel. Like I said, I have always found it helpful to seek out the truth and not just listen to the noise.

His own daughter Ivanka also converted to Judaism years ago…

This is a very clear description and very insightful. Also written by a Bernie Sanders supporter who is a liberal libertarian. I think everyone who is pulling their hair out absolutely should read this and understand that it is absolutely spot on.

I guess my concern is parallel to this musical anecdote:

A drummer was playing in a very square society band. The co-leaders of the group weren’t getting what they wanted from the drummer.

“When we begin to swing, play more on the ride cymbal.”

“Could you raise your hand when we begin to swing?”

I’d also add that I’m extremely pleased and proud of the dignity, leadership and unifying message that the outgoing president offered the country yesterday. I hope those who are upset and frustrated right now take his message to heart

Then why did you turn it into this discussion? Timbeak48 posted something many of us found comforting in our time of upset. You ruined it.

Wow. Sorry RG. I just feel it is better to be upfront and honest rather than pretend you’re not saying what you are saying. But I am sorry you are so full of angst and unable to come to grips with the realities of the day. I have said all I need to say regarding this. Like I said, takes some meaningful time and do an objective review of the FACTS around everything that has taken place. Then see what you can do about making the path forward successful, as it should be.

When we are scared, sad, angry, frustrated and need a place… this community is here.
Thank you @CatLady06 for bringing us back to the core and heart of why we are all here…Our TuDiabetes mission and the values that we hold close. One certainty we do have is this space, together we are stronger and can get through anything. So many hugs to everyone.

Our mission is to connect people touched by diabetes (people who live with type 1, type 2 and other types of diabetes, as well as their loved ones).

Community support
We foster a positive environment where our members support and help each other. This doesn’t mean it’s all roses all the time, but it means that, overall, we strive for maintaining an encouraging and supportive space for all people touched by diabetes. Malicious gossip and trolling for dates are not tolerated on TuDiabetes.

Diversity and Respect
We value diverse points of view. All people touched by diabetes are welcome. You may find opinions and positions that are not similar to yours and it’s OK to disagree. It’s just not OK to do so in a disrespectful manner. If you are unsure about whether something may be disrespectful to others, try to put yourself in the shoes of the other person and consider how you would feel if you were on the receiving end of the comments/contribution you are making.

A note about the different types of diabetes: We believe that no one with diabetes is responsible for having this condition, and we do not support debates about “which type is worse” or comments which place blame on anyone for their condition. The different types of diabetes have more similarities than differences, and within this community we focus on our commonalities and the ways in which we can all support one another as a unified group.

I just hope my health insurance stops going up. I can’t handle another year of my deductables being doubled and yearly 30% premium increases.

I appreciate all the love and support in this community.

I too have been going through a rough time since the election results.

There are many issues that worry me, but I’m going to stick to the topic of diabetes here as the elected president seems to be putting profit before people. My concern is with losing health coverage and the thereat of having the ACA repealed. I’m also worried about the price of insulin and equipment going through the roof. My deductibles are already sky-high which is the reason I cannot afford a CGM despite being approved for one. It is also the reason my endo doesn’t perform certain tests (pricey labs).

I have a full time job I went to school and got a degree for. I also have a side business and yet I feel like I cannot afford adequate medical care in this country. My fear is that things will get worse. I’m trying to stay positive and not think of worst case scenario but having this life-threatening chronic illness that can only be managed by having access to very expensive medical care, does make one worry about things from time to time. :worried:

Did we have trouble accessing our insulin before the affordable care act? Or were we better able to afford it? That’s a serious question, I welcome civil discussion on the topic–

The disconnect for me, if I can talk about Mr. Trump as a person, is that he has said and done things that are disrespectful of women, veterans, disabled people and gold star families (families whose sons or daughters died in service to their country)–just to name a few. And many people who have voted for him say they don’t agree with what he has said and done and that he really didn’t mean it. I’m just not clear on what he DOES believe. Do I believe what he says or what his supporters SAY he means?

Please send me one of those nifty decoder rings you have.

Well, there was the issue of health insurances denying you based on having a preexisting condition.

Yes, some of us did. Because we could not purchase insurance. Now that I have insurance, I can get insulin at a price I can more readily afford.

The ACA in its current state isn’t a good program. Can it be fixed? Or is it so bad we need to start over. I don’t know.

I agree that it’s not the best. It was a step in the right direction however. I don’t think it should be repealed until there’s a better alternative in place.

I really don’t know what you’re talking about. My comments was about healthcare deductibles and premiums.

I agree, needs to be fixed or something different that you can transition to.

My experience has been the opposite. I’ve had the same insurance policy before the aca – actually I had two policies before. My secondary policy went from being completely employer paid , to costing over $1,000 / month out of pocket since the ACA-- it reached the point that I could no longer afford it and we had to drop it. My primary plan went from being completely employer paid to about $500/ month out of pocket. My copay for prescriptions have gone up, my deductibles have gone up, and both are going up more next year. The costs of my entire family’s medical care has gone through the roof in the past few years. We make a decent wage, but medical expenses have gone from being insignificant to being a very large portion of our budget since the Aca. So as a result of the aca my family has far less insurance, providing far less coverage of our needs, at a cost that has risen tremendously and is now very high for us. We were vastly better off before. I hope a solution can be found that benefits everyone.
