It is supposed to let you track carbs and insulin taken.
Medtronic's just sent one at no cost for my wife. Have not had much experience with it, only from yesterday. and next week will get a new script for strips from her Dr.. Am also trying to get VA to upgrade my meter for me as I have been told the new meters are more accurate then old contour meters.
Will give it a smoke test and let you know. I like the smaller size though and hope what I have been hearing is true. I had a lot of issues with the old version
I've been using the Contour Link for several months and REALLY like it. It does not store insulin info, but it links your MiniMed pump to the Carelink web site thru your PC, where you can upload all insulin and carb data. Numerous charts can be generated once you've uploaded.
I love my Contour Link Next it has been great and very helpful as it talks to my pump. I haven't figured out how to download the software for it yet and I don't have carelink I don't think as I have a used pump that I am using till mine goes through for medicare. Hm, if anyone could help that would be great.
I just got mine yesterday, and my doctor's office sent over a script for the wrong strips, which we got changed but waiting on the full quantity of next strips to come in Monday. I've played with it a little and I like the interface and that you can tag fasting and "other" bg versus just before and after meal like on the verio iq. It's claiming you can add blood to the sample to fix a fill error, which sounds like a wonderful feature, but like I said I've yet to actually use it.
There is also an option for a testing reminder, which is theoretically good, but the booklet said it's 20 beeps in order to alert you, stopped by pressing a button or inserting a strip. It may just be me, but 20 seems like a lot, especially if it isn't right next to you to stop.
It does show options to log insulin and carbs, which I've had on previous meters, which I was all excited about to begin with and never used, so we'll see.
Honestly, I'm just excited that it has a testing light and will upload to my mac, unlike pretty much any other d-tech, and that my insurance will cover the strips, which is the main reason I had to switch in the first place.
I finally received the correct strips as well and have been using the Next meter for a little over a week and am very pleased with the results. It tracks the finger sticks within a few points of the CGM. The calibrations seem to be a little smoother. The reminders, as well as the option to add notes at the same time B4 meals and after is very nice as well. I really like it. Now when I get the new transmitter (mine is over two years old) I should be in great shape!!!!!!
I have had mine for about a month now and I really like it. I got it free from MM and the strips for it are cheaper than the previous One Touch Link I had.
I upgraded, now I find my insurance will not under any circumstances pay one thin dime for the strips. Anyone else having this sort of issue? Th would not even pay the typical high dollar deductible that they normally pay. In fact the doctors office was reluctant to even write the scripts for the test strips.
Hi Gregory - just found your query. I've been using the ContourUSB Next since late January and find it a valuable tool in recording & reviewing my data. However, I'm based in the UK, so no problems with obtaining strips (free of charge). I trained in the DAFNE methodology some years ago and the meter fits very well with this approach (mind you I was trained to count carbs when I was first diagnosed in 1976!)
The ContourUSB Next came with my pump upgrade in March. It is absolutely wonderful~! I am able to make notes while testing and then download everything to their CareLink site. I have not had to see my endo on an every 3 week basis since I started doing this. He goes online and watches what my logs, bgs, exercise, trends, etc say for each week and if there are any small changes he wants to make, gives me a call or sends an e-mail telling me what to change. It is working great! Now I only have to see him every few months and still have his full support on managing pump settings, etc. When I moved 500 miles from his office just recently, he was able to manage my T1D online while I was getting health insurances changed over so I could see my new endo. What could be better?
I used the the contourUSB for probably 8 or 9 months and I just go the USB next last week. I don't use a pump, to tell you how it work with that, but I do love that I can store my carbs and insulin in it as well. I haven't had a chance to really dive into it yet, but I'm sure it will give me a lot of insight on how to properly dose my insulin.
