I ate Cake and Ice Cream!

Ok so my daughters one little friend had her birthday party today. Mind you now I don't eat much of anything sweet. So since I was at the party and I have not had ice cream in ages I decided to figure my dinner insulin dose out to include the cake in ice cream(which didn't come until an hour after dinner). So I took about a scoop of ice cream and a cupcake. I took the top half with the icing off, because icing for me is a big no no! So I ate about half of my ice cream and cup cake, it actually just got way to sweet for me to finish...I can't believe this is me now, I used to have such a sweet tooth, in fact it caused me a great deal of highs because it was so hard to stay out of the sweets. But I just knuckled down and got stricter and now I can stop myself. I guess I am tooted my own horn here but I feel like this is a victory and I just wanted to share with you all!:)

Thanks for listening!

Nicole

And what were the results on your blood sugar?

Hmm...I myself cant resist a bit of cake and ice cream once in a while...So how did it affect your bg?

230 getting ready to go test again because I am getting ready for bed.

230 2hours later. To be expected though... I chugged a big glass of water, because it is close to bedtime and I would like to not have to take any Humalog.. I am getting ready to check for bed right now.

Ok so bedtime sugar is 212 so not a catastrophie, I was thinking it would be really really high but I was a bit closer to getting the right carb/Insulin dose..It gets so tricky when you try to account for something like cake and ice cream with the actual meal..

Yay, Nicole! I know you enjoyed that, and it's okay to do so. I hope your bg improves some but either way you know why it's high and you accept that choice. I thank you for sharing. Careful if you choose to correct...set an alarm for a check while you sleep if you can :)

Thanks! I didn't correct since I already drop overnight anyway. I was 160's this morning so I corrected that at breakfast.:)

Just my take on it, but I wouldn't go to sleep at 212 without correcting. I'm on a pump and my overnight levels stay pretty steady, but even if I knew I'd come down to 160 that means being high 8 hours which is just too long for me! I know it was harder when I was on shots because I could only use whole units and sometimes that would be too much.

If I were on a pump I would probably do it different, but I am on shots. I don't like to correct before bed unless I am really high. Sometimes I drop over 100pts overnight. I am taking Lantus right now and I really hate it!!! It is so unpredictable for me. Hopefully though in October I will be starting the pump. I finally got a full time job and can get on my husband's insurance which will pay for a pump and the monthly supplies! I am so so EXCITED!!!
