Anyone using the Inset 30's? I know several years ago people said the tape got all funny if you werent careful with it. I have been using Comforts/Silhouettees freehand for 15 years, but really could use a more one handed set. I'm very thin, and that is why they said to use angled sets. Othere sets always went bad on me. I'm also wondering if they will send samples out? They actually pulled our state rep so we dont have one.
Just confused what to do. Not really anything new in the infusion set world at all......
I have been using the Inset 30's for about 6 years and I LOVE them. I don't have any problems with the tape and never have. In fact, I finally stopped using the IV prep before inserting a new set because the tape was sticking so brilliantly for the full 3 days. I am a pretty thin person and very active (so lots of sweating!)and use the angled ones for the very reason you describe. I have never had any problems - ever.
Can you manuever them to other places besides abs? That’s what I need to be able to do. Or at least to get them to work around old scar tissue. Good to know you like them. I dont like the price but the price with my HMO is probably more reasonable than I think it is…
I've always used them on my core, as that's the only places they've been approved...I'm not that adventurous I guess. I'm sure you could easily get them to go anywhere else (hips, thigh, side).
BagLady...I just looked at the instructions page for the Inset 30 and Animas/UnoMiedical shows all the standard insertion sites. Seriously doubt Animas would freely distribute anything that isn't approved.
I like to remind myself every now and then by perusing those instruction pages, at just how much untapped real estate I actually have after 59 years T1.
Actually yes, I was goubg to say the diagram shows all sorts of sites to use (with Inset).
Animas' reply: You dont have a prescription on file so we cannot send samples, but even if you do have one on file we probably still cannot send samples to you. In other words, I have to order full boxes to try the sets. Which makes no sense to me at all, and seems awfully silly. My pump is out of warranty, but everything is on file correctly. My copay is so high,, I surely do not want to order a box just to see if I like them. I dont get this policy. She said a supervisor would have to approve samples with a prescription for samples but they most likely would not do that. Really?????????????????
I hate all the waste of the I30's and have had longer and better control with the comforts. I do them manually also. I wish they made the I30's so you could just insert the needle/infusion by hand without all the junk. I do not change the tubing as often as I change the infusion set.
Now that is what I thought about the Mios, which is the Medtronic answer to the Inset. Lots of plastic and stuff. The profile of the actual site connection is pretty high too...
Have you tried coming at Animas through your doctor's office? Often the companies will allow things under a doctor's (supposed) supervision which they won't otherwise do.
Do you know how to reach the Animas rep in your area? That's another direction you might try.
I have an Email out to my CDE. They pulled all the reps out of my state supposedly. Not good....

Which state of the US are you in? (Just curious.)
I like the contact-detach sets. They have the tubing as one part and the "business end" has two parts: one that goes into your body and a second sticky pad that is about 3 inches away from the first one (hard to describe). Anyway, The contact detach is a 90 degree one, but I am thin and the cannula is so short that I have no problems with it hitting muscle. The sticky works very well as well. I use them on my arms, my butt (which is why the second sticky part comes in handy, you can access harder to reach places, and yet easily detach when need be. I also use the "girls. I find that the straight in sets don't slide off with sweat as easily as the angled ones.
As someone asked, where are you located? maybe someone here is nearby and can give you one or two to try.
I like the contact-detach also, but it just is not comfortable in all spots. I use them in my arm, but sure enough someone will pat me on the arm. I wish they made them with the cannula of soft plastic. That would be all I use. Very convenient to have them attach at a location other than what is under your skin. Not many selections with animas.
NM. No more rep.
Now I'm actually thinking my system has changed yet again, and my correction doses might need to be a bit larger. I was having lots of overnight lows (3 am to 8) and now it may just be that that isnt happening anymore. So if I need an after dinner, correction bolus it might need to be a slight tad bigger. I dont want to go too much at first, because I sure dont want serious overnight lows. I just keep pulling these sets and they are not crimped or anything. Except in the case where you can just see it pulled out....
Rockin Granny, I'm like you, I'll change the infusion set (the business end as I call it) more often than the tubing. I find it hard to estimate three days worth on insulin for each cartridge change, and I hate wasting the insulin in the tubing. I wish they would sell the tubing and the infusion set separately. I have enough extra tubing sets to make a macramé plant hanger!
I can't waste insulin either. My insurance co gives me such a hard time getting my Apidra. I find it works much better for me. No redness/swelling at site area.
Funny, I have thought about making macrame' with them too. Some strong material for sure. Not sure what the sun would do, but who cares. :)
Minimd used to sell the boxes of needle tops separate from tubing. i dont know if they still do. The rep would try to tell you to toss everything every three days, and I used to ask them why then, do you sell these things in separate boxes for people who want to buy them like that???!!!

Perhaps I'm misunderstanding here, but I think you are talking about Medtronic/Minimed's Silhouette infusion set. It has a teflon (soft) cannula and inserts at a 45 degree angle (or whatever you prefer).
You can still purchase a box of 10 of the infusion sets without any tubing. Here are the details taken from their online "store" web page.
- $117.30 MMT-369 Silhouette 13mm Cannula / Cannula Only (10/box)
- $117.30 MMT-370 Silhouette 17mm Cannula / Cannula Only (10/box)
I used to use the Silhouette years again, but then switched to the Quick-Set because I felt it worked better for me. I still have about 20 of the 17mm cannula Silhouette's with 23" tubing I never got around to using. They use the Luer lock connector so I need to use Fifty-50 Medicals reservoirs to be able to use them with my Paradigm 723 pump.
I suppose I should probably do that. They supposedly all expired back in Sep of 2011. ;-)
A bigger problem is what to do with the 30 (3 boxes) of MM reservoirs for the old 507 & 508 pump. I still have the pumps ... you know, in case of an emergency where both my current 723 & previous 722 stop working. But I honestly doubt I'll ever really use either the reservoirs or those old pumps.
But I digress ...
