Is it Coke or Diet Coke?

I can tell the difference - taste, color, and fizz.

Normally.

However, one time I got confused in a restaurant and could not figure it out. Turns out they mixed up the machine – put diet in regular and regular in diet. Or something like that. And it ended up this weird half and half like mixture. O.o

I can taste the difference, if I am not able to, I use a test strip and test it.

lol

Me too…I use a test strip.

i can tell the difference. Coke has more of a sugary caramel taste

Where do you get test strips?

we you say test strip, you mean urine test strip not blood right?

Do the glucose test strips actually give a meaningful response to a solution containing sucrose or fructose instead of glucose (or are these drinks sweetened with glucose)? I suppose it depends on which enzyme the strip is using but I thought they were reasonably specific for glucose. If they strips can handle a variety of mono- or disaccharides that could be quite useful

no…blood. It works. I it is reular coke/pepsi etc it will read hi, if diet low or 30.

My son is certain that he can tell the difference. If testing with a regular glucose strip is all that one needs to verify, that will certainly relieve alot of worry. I have always specified diet pre order and then clarified diet post order. I have been doing my best two show my at one time 10 year old, now 16 year old that diabetes education is a way of survival of life for him. While I don’t want him to be afraid, I do want him to do what is necessary to protect his health.

We lived a year where he could not go to bed alone when he was first diagnosed. He was afraid to go to sleep and never wake up.

Your “test strips” that you use in your meter.

I have tried it at home…soda (both diet and regular) works and also at a restaurant and it works…will read “hi” if regular and “lo” or 20-30 reading if diet.

Try it at home it you can…test a drop (like blood) diet and reg. see what happens. It has worked for me.

your regular test strips will show HI for non diet drinks, and an actual number for diet drinks, sometimes will register LO.

That is interesting, thanks Robyn for clearing that one out

I can taste the difference… but I think its a better way to stay healthy with sometimes drinking regular pop, because too much aspertain can kill you, and aspertain is in diet things and also flavored water. I prefer diet though because I find if I dont have to take insulin for it, it’s a good thing :stuck_out_tongue:

There are times when I take a drink of a Coke I was just given and I realize that I don’t know whether it’s regular or diet, I just have to trust that the server really gave me diet. OTOH, I’m not going to be drinking any regular soda, so I don’t know for sure if regular soda would taste sickly sweet to me or not. All I know is, I no longer distinguish a “diet” taste at all with diet soda.

Wow, really? I will have to try that!

AAA and too much sugar will kill you 2!!! 1 can of a diet a day or when you eat out will be fine, instead of drinking regular and stuck with highs for a while or give huge amount of insulin to cover it!

Am happy that you are introduced for a new thing that will help you in managing your D and inspecting the unsuspected!

haha nice i’ve just discovered the joy of dewars white label scotch and sprite zero it’s my new favorite drink
