My stupidity

Here I sit crying because I put my receiver in the washing machine. It was a brand new receiver too. I am just disgusted with myself…why can’t I be more careful…I know how expensive they are?

I’m sorry this happened to you! That’s not being stupid, simply human. I once froze a $1000 worth of insulin. That is upsetting and the last thing you need to complicate your life.

I assume you’re referring to a Dexcom receiver. If it is, give Dexcom a call and tell them your story. I believe they will sell you another receiver at a discount that may take some sting out of this for you.

I’m so dependent on my CGM, I wouldn’t want to live one day without it. Call them as soon as possible and forgive yourself. We all do damaging things that we don’t intend. Good luck and please report back.

If it’s a G5 do you absolutely need the receiver? Or can you solely link it to your phone?

What kind of receiver was it? I have 2 that I don’t use. 1 of which is completely new–never used. For some reason–my Insurance company keeps sending me more.

It is a G5 Dexcom and I called them and they told me 199.00 for a new one…one time deal. But we will try to go thru insurance…just in case they might pay for another one. We shall see. Thank you all for your input. I agree that I don’t like to go one night without the dexcom. It is so scary especially if you have had a seizure during the night!

Did you quickly retrieve it, or did it go through an entire wash/rinse/spin ??
If it was just a quick dunk, you can try to dry it out by putting it in a bag of rice.

I know someone that had a cell phone (and on a sunken boat!), that was able to revive it since they were quickly rescued. But initially phone did not work, but did after about 24 hours in the rice bag.

Surprised you have Dex G5, without phone, rather than getting G4 ??

Try putting it in a bowl of rice to remove the moisture. We’ve saved many electronic devices that way!

You’re not alone - this just happened recently to another member

This is a case for the TuDiabetes Optimistic Hamster!!!

I have nothing more to add other than to say that $h!+ happens, no one gets through life without a few mishaps like this, and you need to stop beating yourself up over being human!

I love the optimistic hamster… thanks @MarieB!

This inspired me, of course, so I did some image googling. Heh heh heh… boy do I have a lot of material now…!

Anyway, on a different subject, after that nut in Ohio stabbed all those people this weekend ISIS-inspired attacks seem to be on the rise. The sorts of individuals that are being duped by those whackos is expanding. Just today, they caught this guy before – thank God – he carried out his plot. He was headed for The Mall of America. Disaster averted!

Oh I feel your pain! I dropped my brand new transmitter charger while cleaning the toilet tonight. I had just picked it up off the table to put it away, and in my cleaning mode decided to clean the toilet on the way to putting it away ( look what I get when I try to clean)! I grabbed it out so fast and did my best to dry it out. Hoping it works next time I need to charge my transmitter ( or that the warranty will cover it). :joy::joy::joy:

You need to charge your transmitter? Are we talking Dexcom or Medtronic?

Must be Medtronic because you do charge that transmitter. One advantage of that is their transmitters last a long time, often for years. The downside of it is that it makes extending sensor life more difficult because you need to recharge it after a week or ten days. If you’re not careful taking off the tape, you can dislodge the sensor and make it unhappy:-( Unhappy sensors aren’t accurate…

Two more reasons why I loves my daughter’s Dexcom G5: no need to recharge transmitters and longer sensor life (for most folks).

To be clear, it wasn’t ME that put it in the washer it was my wife. Shame on her.
