i saw it today held it in my hand it does has a set color screen meaning you cannot change the default colors. There will be NO PDM Case with it like the holster belt clip case it only has like a pouch carry case that u can put your insulin vial extra batterry poker and a pod and the PDM in. almost like the pouch case that came with the first PDM but a tiny bit bigger to accommodate the 2 extra batteries. That said I am bummed about no belt holster as thats how I carry mine and the new PDM is more square on the bottom so it does not fit good in the 1st PDM holster. The cool part is the new PDM works with CoPilot software which I absolutely love copilot I keep every in thereoh ya the BIG news is MAY 4th the Preorders start if you can call into Insulet and get on the list $50.00 for a June 1st delivery Oh you can now add up to 10 of your own tags for BG reading and go back and change a tag if you make a mistake there were some great improvements made with unit and I was told there should be a new slimmer pod by the end of the yr or the of 2010 peace RenZ
Thanks for the news.
Great news - do you need to return the old PDM when you upgrade? I was hoping to use that as a backup.
Thanks. What are the default colors?
The old PDM is your to keep as a backup! The colors are green and some grey and I think theres some purple I just remeber like on each screen theres a main color highlight but the screen is sooo much Ez’er to read its nite and day seems to me like it has a better resolution more defined. When holding it in my hand to me the unit felt abit heavier not much mine you but more solidly built the old seems abit cheesy to me and reminds me of the free bayer BG meters this acually feels and looks like a PDA I just wish it had a belt clip case im gonna have to find one for it or it will drive me nuts lol. I am hitting my preorder first thing monday morning. hope this helps if you have any other specific questions I can always call my trainer and ask her
Very helpful - thanks. I bet there might be cell phone holder/belt clips that might hold the new model.
I went to pre order and was told it was 150 dollars for the upgrade … I think they go by how long you have been using the omnipod? I’m going to call back soon.
on hold with insulet right now, ordering my new PDM!!!
Yes, I was also told $149.99 to upgrade. Payment is taken up front.
yep I went for it though! the website has an update on it but not too much info.
How long do you have to have been on the pod to get a $50 upgrade?
It’s $50 if you just started! If you’ve been on it for a while- it’s $149.
Sounds like we’re being punished for sticking with the company!
I’ve got a call in to a manager right now. EVERYBODY NEEDS TO ■■■■■ ABOUT THIS!!!
Is the PDM any thinner than the current one?
Yes, according to my local rep it is noticeably thinner but also a bit longer.
Color screen is confirmed, and she says it is MUCH more visible and bright the the current screen.
I completely disagree. OmniPod is a business and must make money in order to survive long term. $150 for a device like this is still very cheap. If you don’t believe me, go to your local mobile phone store and check the price on one of their nicer models if you don’t sign the 2-year contract. Most are at least $100-$200, many are even more.
People who recently started would be VERY unhappy to have to spend more $$$ out of pocket to upgrade now, since they likely just used up their deductibles getting the system in the first place. That is why the pricing might be cheaper for them.
I just don’t understand the mentality that we should be given everything for free or cheap; we do want Insulet to be a viable company, don’t we? Do we want to start discussing how much money they probably spent developing the new PDM, how many millions?
Besides, each insurance plan is going to be different in terms of how soon after your initial OmniPod purchase they will pay for a replacement; my local rep has put me in touch with the insurance/reimbursement person to help find out if my insurance might cover the new PDM. I suggest you ask your rep to do the same for you.
I agree Eric, the whole things about the cells phones makes so much sense, new subscribers to get discounts, and the $150 for the new PDM is so logical for what this device can do for us…good luck to everyone is trying the new one. I will be ordering mine when I have some extra money for it…
I tend to disagree with this argument as the company is making most of its money off of the recurring income of the pods. The BGM companies basically give the meters away to sell their strips on an ongoing basis – kind of like Gillette giving away razors to sell the blades. They’re not making that much on the PDM’s anyway, so they ought to give loyal customers a break.
I never said that it should be free. I say that those of us who have been loyal to the company should not be penalized in favor of those who have just started.
Thank you . This can’t be compared to a new cell phone.
Apples and oranges, folks.
Yes, the business model of the OmniPod relies on the ongoing income. But in my opinion that does not mean they should just lose money on the PDM. Again, think about what it cost them to develop the new device and get it through both FCC and FDA approval - we’re talking MILLIONS of dollars. MUCH more than most cell phones cost to develop these days.
I speculate that they are breaking even (roughly) by selling the PDMs for $150.
Let me ask you this: if you didn’t know that new users were getting a $100 discount, would you still consider $150 too high a price to pay for this upgrade? Think about that for a minute before answering…
…then put yourself in the shoes of someone who just got their starter kit a month or two ago (and likely paid deductible out of pocket for that) and think about how you would feel about paying another $150 now.
