New to Tandem T:Slim Pump

Hi Everyone, I would greatly appreciate any and all info or help with the pump. I wear the One Touch Ping now and have for about 4 1/2 years. I have a brand new T:Slim in the closet and I am waiting on the doctor to get me in for a lesson or two on my new one. I'd greatly appreciate any info or comments on how everyone likes it or not. Is it hard to learn? I'm afraid that i won't grasp a hold of the facts about it because I have so much trouble with my focus. I have cerebral ischemia and it is hard and getting harder! I thank all of you!! XO

Vicki,
Unpack the box, plug it in and let it charge. While it's doing that use the memory chip to download the manual and start to read. Or go to the website and find the users manual.
There will be differences from your current pump. Play with it. Program it with your current pump program. Try loading a cartridge, load it with water, prime the tubing etc but do not attach it to yourself. Pretend you are giving a dose. Add carbs, add a BG, do a correction and play with the insulin calculator. How the tslim works may be different from your current pump. The more you play before you switch the easier it will be.

If you can use a smart phone you can use a t:slim.

Vicki, I agree with everything hobbit said. My son is 10 and has been on a pump for a month. He uses the t:slim and doesn’t have any problems. It is very user friendly. The touch screen is nice and easy to use. He does everything him self expect I help him change the cartridge. Play with it. You won’t damage it. Good luck to you!

It is absolutly very easy to use the Tslim. You will see very soon.

Tandem conducted several instructional webinars last year. You can look them up on YouTube. Get your pump out and follow along.
. Watch the demo by Sara Jane Miller. She trained me.

Thanks so much!! I do appreciate it and yes, I am able to play with a smart phone so I should be ok... Thanks again Hobbit! XO :-)

Thank you Jen!! I am so blessed to hear that your son uses a pump... If they only made them 50 years ago... God Bless you and your son!! XO :)

Thank you so much Janice, that is great to know!! I will be looking at this!! XO :)

Vicki,
Once you get the hang of the mechanics of the tslim be sure to look at the difference in how the bolus calculator works compared to your current one. This will be the biggest difference for you.
Tslim currently will not calculate a reduction in a carb bolus if you are below target but are 70 or higher. It will let you subtract from the dose by overriding it's calculation before dispensing if you want to.... I keep a small calculator handy to double check my mental math if needed. But have found personally that if I shave off a small amount I'm ok. I do have very low insulin requirements so it may be different for you and you may want to use a credit card calculator to help you until you get the hang of it.

Dear Vicki,
The t-slim is my first pump and - I really like it ! It is almost too easy to use. I would suggest you take it out of the closet, get familiar with it. Turn it on, play with the 1-2-3 touch screen. Find out if you will have any problems seeing the screen prior to use. There is a return period so don't use it up by keeping it in the closet not using this amazing bit of technology. Is there a diabetes educator available to get you started. She/he works with the doctor and the diabetes supply company. Call, find out, get it going girl ! I am a retired Nurse Practitioner and will try to help you if I can.

I really appreciate the help Hobbit!! I will make sure i keep track of that too!! XO :)

Thank you Stephanie, I really appreciate all the help. I will keep you updated!! XO :)
