The picture shows a young lad with 730 disposable syringes sticking into his arms, abdomen and upper legs. Scary looking picture, but it would be good for some non diabetics to see this. Some people seem to think diabetes is not such a big deal. Just take some insulin, and you will be ok. HA!
The link leads to an error message, Richard.
I'm not on facebook, so it won't let me see the picture
Same here Richard. The note says that it is not available. Lots of People on the net are not on Facebook.
I am on Facebook (to play scrabble only!) and it still leads to an error message.
Maybe Richard can explain what it is.I was killing 2 birds with one stone Zoe. :) Some sites that I've come across have had similar messages.
Same result for me. I even logged into my FB account and received the error message. Now I'm really curious what the picture looks like!
I've seen some pretty good syringe art.
A pic from tudiabetes Diabetes Supply art contest that might be 730 or so syrnges:
I also remember an exhibit in a real art museum, where the "art" was a chair on which there were glued hundreds of uncapped insulin syrnges pointed outwards. That was cool.
Not sure what makes two bags filled with syringes "art" - but it certainly is an impressive amount of syringes!
I'm guessing what Richard is talking about is something implying someone could take two shots a day for a year and be cured? Richard, help us out here!My guess is that 365 x 2 shots per day = a large pile of 730 used syringes. For the needle-phobic, the stuff of nightmares. It would visually show just how much time and energy we devote to managing diabetes.
Looking forward to Richard's update.
Even if I am logged into facebook, if I try to view a picture from someone who is not my "Friend" I might be denied if they set their account to not share photos with any except friends.
I for one welcome the new "Fakeblock" software. The Anti-Social Network. Privacy Software that's also Anti-Piracy. Or, a woodblock application for the iphone :-).
Thanks for the description, Richard. Yep, good illustration, except how many type 1 take just two shots a day! The guy would run out of real estate to show the true number!
Yikes! That would grab most people's attention. That image would definitely be more impactful than a pile of 730 syringes!
I wish there was a way to view this photo.
That's hard to look at and I'm not needle phobic!
Be careful what you ask for? It's particularly hard to look at because it's a kid. This might be good to show to some school personnel who don't get what their students need to do! (And again, double it for the minimum typical MDI.

Yeah, especially people that think its just about taking a a few shots a day and then getting on with life. If only it were that easy.
What few people appreciate is how much diabetes affects almost every moment of our lives. It's never far away or much below the surface of our existence.
If I did MDI, I would probably split my basal into two shots. I would take two shots for each meal, rapid acting for carbs and Regular for protein/fat. That gets me up to 8/day without any corrections. That's 2920 shots/year and corections would push me over 3000/year easily.
That stretches one's mind a bit. Great artwork! Oh come now Richard. Two shots a day wasn't that bad. :D
Hi Terrie, two shots per day would have been great. I was taking six shots per day before I started using a pump. The picture would have depicted only three months at that time.
Oh sorry Richard, I was dragging you, me and other long-term PWD back to when we were that Boy's age. We only received 2 shots a day back then. When I was age 3, I only received one shot a day.
