I just noticed that I have a mark on my back in the shape of a pod (must have not cleaned that one well). And after washing and scrubbing till I turn red and got a sore back from all the twisting ... I have come here to ask for ideas ... alchol does not seem to work and I have tried a couple of different soaps that I have. Anyone have any tips??
I purchased some Medi-solve a while ago for this purpose. I used it a couple times but have pretty much stopped using it unless the residue will be visible. It generally comes off after 2 or 3 showers or can be rubbed off while dry.
Uni-Solve. Prices are all over the place so take a minute to shop it out online. An 8oz bottle should be around $14 and it lasts forever.
I should add that we loosen with baby oil, it peals right of with the baby oil and only leaves a trace of the adhesive. If you use the adhesive remover to loosen the pod it leaves behind a lot of slimy stuff that is difficult to get off. Oil, wait, pull off, uni-solve the next day after site heals. That’s our move. YMMV
Hi back at you… There a few things that you could use. One easy and cheap way to remove residue is with a cotton ball soaked in fingernail polish remover. This is handy to use at home…not so much when you travel. You can also purchase adhesive remover (Uni-Solve)–available under the pump supply section at American Diabetes Wholesale. I checked a few sites and this was the cheapest at the time. Use it to make removal of the pod a lot easier and after to remove residue. The remover comes in individual packets. Quite handy, as well. http://www.americandiabeteswholesale.com/-strse-355/Smith-dsh-Nephe…
Iv used acetone/nail polish remover but it tends to leave a ring… Unisolve can usually remove that “ring of adhesive goo”… Also try Allegro Medical, esp when they have one of their 20% off sales… Also you can use Detachol or Medi-Sol (which is citrus based), as well as Remove (another Smith and Nephew product)…
One thing that people dont mention is that many of the adhesive removers suggest you wash the area with soap/water/alcohol AFTER you use them… people seem to leave that step out… Your skin will thank you and its a good time to put neosporin or other antibacterial (if your prone to MRSA you can use bactroban (prescription)) on the cannula hole…
We just use rubbing alcohol for everything. We clean the site with it before we put the pod on. We soak the adhesive with it right before we take the pod off (comes off like a dream) and then we clean off the residue with it after the pod is off. Our girls don’t have dry skin, so that may be a consideration. But at .69 for a 24 oz. bottle, it is economical for us!
Yes, baby oil works great. I put some on a q-tip and saturate the edges, then I slip it under the adhesive and it peels right off with no residue, itching, etc.
I guess I should be a little more caring for my skin. I usually just rip it off (with no prep), clean with alchol pad or wash with soap and water, put lotion on and that is it. Will be trying the baby oil etc.
Thank you so much. I have been ripping it off also. The other day I was in the shower & saw the same thing on my back (the exact shape of a pod) & I tried to scrub & scrub to no avail. LOL I am going to try baby oil & see if that works first. Since that is probably cheaper.
What do you guys do about the adhesive itching. About the 2nd day of wearing it, It sometimes starts to irritate ,my skin. I usually end up changing it. Even though it says you can wear it 2-3 days.
