Looking for suggestions on a moderately cute (i.e. not horrifically ugly) purse to carry all my little one’s D supplies. I finally traded in that hideous diaper bag for a relatively compact purse, and with all the fast-acting carbs, spare reservoirs, infusion sets, BG meters, etc., my purse is overflowing and I’m having trouble finding things like my keys or the Dex receiver.
I’m wondering if folks can suggest some vaguely fashionable ladies’ handbag options that have lots of pockets the right size for most D supplies, as well as space for the typical items like phone, pocketbook and keys? (I realize beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but still…) Not super expensive would be nice too as these things get worn out pretty quickly with me.
I haven’t used it in awhile, but I used to really love my Adorn Diabetic Handbag. The outside pocket holds a removable “clutch” that holds all your D-supplies (or at least most of them) and there’s a liner pocket inside for an ice pack to keep insulin cold if you’re going to be out in a hot environment for an extended period of time.
I’ve since traded it in for a Bagallini “Wander Bagg” which is JUST barely big enough for me. I don’t use a pump though, so that particular option may not be big enough for you. It holds my Samsung G5 in the outer pocket, and I keep some other flat stuff in the zipper pocket (I think a checkbook would fit), a pack of gum and a tin of mints in the inside pocket. My insulin pen stays in one of the little elastic bands you can see in the picture. My BG test kit, which also holds my glucose tabs with an elastic band on its spine, nestles down between the two inside zipper pockets which holds my lipstick, cash, change, etc. I keep my keys clipped to the D-rings that the straps attach to the purse with on a black carabiner so that I don’t have to dig for them. My Dexcom receiver nestles down right between the outside zipper and that inner liner that holds the two zipper pockets steady, almost as if it were made for it. I don’t actually use a pocketbook because of all the CC slots built into the Bagallini itself. I bought mine at a local Birkenstock store for about the price listed there. I got my first one at The Container Store, and upgraded to the newer one when I got a bigger phone as my older one had a smaller cellphone pocket that didn’t fit my newer Samsung.
I’m rough on purses, and my Bagallini has lasted for YEARS.
I am a fan of the Myabetic folks. They design a lot of different looking options. And the founder was in the #BigBlueTest video Diabetes Hands Foundation produced a couple of years ago!
I have a Coach shoulder bag, and two other larger bags I use for school. I have everything in a quart sized ziplock and transfer from bag to bag. Ziplock has a back up pen, pump supplies, alcohol swipes, and glucose tabs. My meter is separate in its black case.
