Quick serter and Quick sets don't seat correctly?

I noticed that on some of my Quick Set insertions, they don’t seat properly into the serter. Does anyone else have this issue? Maybe it’s just my serter? I have to put the set in and hold the blue tail in order for it to stay in until I “shoot” it in.

My tool grips the set, but I have to pull the plunger partially back to seat the quickset by pressing it into the tool. Once it’s seated, I slowly release the plunger, remove the tape covers, fully retract the plunger, then set.

I will have to try this next inertion. DOn’t know what I am not doing correctly. Maybe this is it.

Some have just explained their problem to MM and asked for another serter. Then compare the two is see if you still have an issue. I’ve used mine for 5 years with no problems, so perhaps I’m just lucky…or strange:)
Good luck tho.

Thanks - I will likely do this.

I have had the exact same problem. I am now on my 5th inserter, but still having the same issues. Medtronic keeps replacing it every time I call, but they all seem to be exactly the same. The first inserter I had for 5 years worked great, but it wore out so I had to buy a new one. I have noticed that the new ones are a little bit different than the first one I had. Has anybody else noticed this? The other thing I have noticed is that when I am ready to use the inserter and put it up to my skin, I can feel the needle from the infusion set. I, too, am wondering why it doesn’t seem to stay set in the inserter without having to hold the blue tail.

i have noticed that the adhesive patch is mis-centered on the quick-seter.

I just take a good pair of scissors and trim off part of the patch, and have no problems with it.

I’ve been having the same problem lately, but not consistently. And my serter is probably at least 4 years old. I think the problem may be with the quickset itself, rather than the serter.

I also noticed that on several sets in one box, the adhesive circle wasn’t cut right, so it ended up sticking to the side of the serter and when I pulled it back to insert, it ruined the adhesive patch, and I had to open a new set. I had 2-3 of those in one box, and then I haven’t had the problem since.

Quality control is, apparently, an oxymoron these days.

Yes - I do think it is the set itself - I have not had the problem the last 2 sets I have put in. Weird.

Hi guys! I’m hoping your experience might be of great use to me as I have been having similar problem. I’m a UK user of the 712 for six years, and usually use quicksets. Recently I have had several problems due, I believe, to the newly released quicksets which seem to be made of similar but slightly more ‘flimsy’ materials. The set does not sit as well in the inserter and when u take off the adhesive covers it seems to stretch the adhesive material so that as you fire the inserter it catches the adhesive in the side of the mechanism as it moves towards the skin. This then either means the cannula does not reach the skin or goes in at a non-perpendicular angle - slightly painful but no problem! What has then happened is when I have straightened the cannula in my skin it has appeared to bend the tube below the skin surface and then, when the needle has been removed, cause non-delivery of insulin causing ketoacidosis. Anyone having similar problems or have ideas about solving then? Cheers. D

Update - I have used the Serter with no issues lately - I think it may have been my error. When I put the set in the serter, I push it down on the spring to make sure it is seated - when I have done this, it seats properly and doesn’t kick out.

Duncan, I too have had my adhesive get stuck in the Serter. It has happened several times and has been very painful. I actually haven’t used that serter since. I went back to my old one. I’m too afraid of the adhesive getting stuck again. If you find a solution to this problem please let me know. I perfer the size of the Quick sets but don’t want to have to deal with that nightmarish problem again.

bean429, I have just had an email from a medtronic UK rep who I have given a number to to call me and chat these things through. It took a rather strongly worded mail to get their attention which I find disappointing as they must rely quite heavily on end users like us to get feed back on their kit!
Will keep you posted. D

When I used quickserter, I would hold the release pins with one hand and pull back on the plunger with other hand and then let go of the plunger. It would insert everytime that way and not allow the adhesive strip to stick to the inside of quickserter. I never had another bent tips of the infusion set either.

Right, just had long chat with Medtronic person. She stated that the company had identified that certain batches of quickset were being produced with more glue on one side if the adhesive dressing than the other meaning that the dressing was/is catching in the serter mechanism (this to me doesn’t sound convincing as the adhesive disk must sit inside the circumference of the serter to work). This has apparently been identified with batches coming out of Mexico as the UK is also supplied from Mexico via Belgium (!) Whether this will solve my occlusion problem due to quinked cannulas I do not know. We will wait and see. She is sending new serter and quicksets out asap and the old ones have to go back. Will let you know how I get on. D
