Can anyone recommend safe treatment for type 1 with insomnia?
Have you considered medicinal marijuana?
Despite taking a lot of medications for Type 1, I’m always hesitant to take any medication–aspirin included. Have you been able to figure out WHY you have insomnia? Addressing whatever is causing a problem is the least-invasive way to deal with it. Have you talked to your doctor about it? He/she may be able to give you a little temporary medical relief if your are getting haggard, but he/she may also be able to help you figure out why and deal with it directly.
No. I am postmenopausal taking ERT. It helps with night sweats and sleeping a little. I still wake up 2 to 3 times per night. BS are perfect.
Where would you get medicinal marijuana?
I am post-menopausal taking ERT. It has helped a little but still waking up 3 to 4 times per night. BS are great!
I have a similar issue wake up at least once a night. BG is perfect too. I only have like 5hrs to sleep so waking up in the middle of the night really sux.
Try playing soothing music. It is recommended that you do not stay in bed for over half an hour or so trying to get to sleep. Get up, read a book and make yourself a hot drink. Then go back to bed. Hope you find something that works.
Thank you!
MIRTAZAPINE- helps me with sleep. One side effect is it can increase your appetite.
Thank you for your input!!!
Mirtazapine is notorious for causing weight gain; wouldn’t be my first choice for a patient with D…
YDMV😉
I use an over the counter med, doxylamine succinate, that I get at Costco. When I looked it up earlier today, it indicated it was a cold med. Works well for 8-9.5 hours sleep with no side effects that I’m aware.
I’ve been using melatonin for years. Helps me fall asleep more so than stay asleep. Sometimes have weird dreams with it…
I have tried melatonin. Doesn’t help with staying asleep. Leaves me with a hangover feeling. Thanks anyways! Maybe its just a short-term problem. Hopefully!
I will have to get a Costco card. I appreciate that information.
You may buy doxylamine succinate at most drug stores. It sells under various brand names but the pharmacist can help you identify it. I get it at Costco because it has the best price.
I will definitely do that! Thank you so much!
I take valerian root.It helps make you sleepy, but I still sometimes wake in the night and have trouble going back to sleep.I am 50 and not menopausal yet,but my periods are erratic.Melatonin only helps to regulate your sleep cycle. For example if you work shift work.I am going to try chamomile capsules to help relax me .
