So Louise, my Dex, died again last night, this time when she was charging. My last one died in October. Fortunately for Dex, they have wonderful customer service, so my new one will be here tomorrow. No matter if it’s bad sensors or receiver, they replace them and the turnaround time is quick. Anyone have as bad of luck as me with the receivers? My first one lasted almost 10 months, then not quite 4 this time.
I’ve had mine for about 4 months with no receiver problems. I’ve been through 2 transmitters and a lot of failed sensors, but like you say, Dexcom support has always been wonderful about helping to identify the problem and get it corrected as quickly as possible. Lately, it’s been working great for me and overall, I am very happy.
No. My first one lasted about 15 months, before a fatal drowning, and it was still strong at that time. My second STS only had about 6 months before I was “upgraded” to the Seven (grrrr. I didn’t like that-- ‘Seven’ is a lot less accurate, and Sensors last about a week less.)
Now, although I’ve had the ‘Seven’ in my possession for about 17 months, It’s only been in active use for about 11 months. Still strong, without problems. But it’s a very leaky box. In my house, over 11 months, it’s developed a lot of dust inside, and there’s 4 dog hairs on the space between the clear plastic and the LCD underneath. (Crud leaks in through the “opener” slot on the left end, and around the data/charging port connector, and probably through the gaps between buttons too.) If you work in dusty places, similar crud might be short-circuiting your Receiver’s electronics.
Did they replace the charger last time? If not, I think that they should spend an extra $20 and assure that your charger isn’t doing something “ugly”. And if you’ve got surge protector somewhere (for your TV, or your computer), I’d be inclined to plug the charger into a surge protector instead of going straight into the wall.
It was plugged into a surge protector, so I’m not sure that was the problem. The first time I was not charging when it happened, and I hadn’t even thought about that not working now. I will definitely check that when I get the new one tomorrow.
