I have a co-worker who is looking for a sugar-free birthday cake. Do any of you fellow tu-D members in the San Francisco area know of any bakeries who do sugar free cakes? I have checked Yelp and other sources but it seems like a long shot. Thanks!
Well… Even a sugar free cake is not sugar free. It’s chuck-full of carbohydrates, which break down into our body’s system as glucose. A lot of fast acting glucose… and with all the added fat from the butter, etc, we are kept high for a very, very long time. Really, your best bet is to look for a low carbohydrate cake. I don’t know of any bakeries for this, but there are so many awesome recipes for good Diabetic cakes on DLife. The world just doesn’t understand us, and always focuses on table sugar, sadly…
Well, one option would be a low carb cheesecake from “Cheesecake Factory.” 11g net effective carbs. There is one at 251 Geary Street.
I’ll give you directions if you want.
Don’t even bother asking how I know this, I won’t answer (it could be self incriminating).
Like Lizmari said, a ‘sugarfree’ cake isn’t really sugar free. It’s carbohydrates in general that affect blood sugar, and you can’t make a carb-free cake (as far as I know) just because of the ingredients that are involved… Now you might find a low-carb cake…but not ‘carb-free’. I’d go with the cheesecake bsc suggested! (It’s good, I’ve had it!)
