I recently upgraded the software on my pump, mostly so I could enable mobile bonus from the app. I’ve noticed since then that, every so often, the pump will stop insulin delivery because, so the message says, there has been no activity for over 12 hours. In every instance, this is clearly not the case. One occurrence was two hours after I had used the pump to deliver my evening meal bolus. Have any of you experienced this, and is there a fix? The first time it happened was when I was asleep. I’m sure the alert sounded, but I didn’t hear it. I’d really like to avoid this in the future.
Probably best to call Tandem support.
That’s a default setting known in the industry as a “dead man’s switch”, which turns off insulin delivery if the pump thinks you’re unresponsive. It’s to limit manufacturer liability if you’re found unresponsive with the pump chugging away. It’s always been there, but you probably just never noticed it before because you were going into the pump more often.
Mobile bolusing from your phone doesn’t count as a pump interaction. You actually have to unlock the screen to count as an interaction.
You can disable that setting, though. Or just change the timeframe if you don’t want it disabled altogether.
Options (gear cog)> My Pump> Alerts & Reminders> Pump Alerts> Auto-Off
Thank you, Robyn. This is the fix I was looking for. I check my bg and iob every night before I go to bed. I’m good with having this particular alert turned off.
Mine is set to 24 hours and one would think I would never go 24 hours, but on days that I fast, I don’t do anything on my pump except look at my glucose and that doesn’t count toward the auto off. So every once in a while, I’ll get the warning.
The thing that disturbed me was that my pump was set for 12 hours, but I was getting this alert two hours after I had used the pump for a bolus. It just wasn’t working.
The solution is to turn that alert off! My Pump…Alerts & Reminders…Pump Alerts…Auto Off.
Also it’s frustrating if you take insulin via t-connect on your phone that damn alert on your pump still goes off since you didn’t take insulin via your pump. SMH.
