I use a magnetic charger, too, and love it! The micro-usb plug is the one thing I really hate about the T:slim. It feels so outdated to me when everything else in the house is Usb-C, and after 5 years I STILL can’t plug it in in the dark. I can’t get the plug to fit unless I I eyeball which side is the wide end of the trapezoid and line everything up perfect. I’ve only had the magnetic cable a few months, but it’s a brilliant game changer. You just get the end of the plug into the near vicinity of the pump, and it snaps right into place and yields that lovely charging beep.
And I’ve said it before, but I’ll repeat it. That little dust cover is 100% irrelevant to the pump’s water resistance. It does nothing but keeps the dirt out of the cavity. I know it’s difficult to understand if you’re not an electronics person, but water touching the exposed parts of any modern, water-resistant electronic (yes, even the metal charging port!) Is not a problem. Electronics don’t die because they touch water, they die when water seeps inside and corrodes sensitive components. Nothing disastrous happens when the charging port comes in contact with water, because they’re designed to transmit electricity (and sometimes data packages), and not to transmit water. The port itself is made from non-corrosive materials, which can’t be damaged by the water.
Waterproofing measures happen entirely within the sealed body of the electronics… usually with copious amounts of sealants, gaskets, and impermeable mesh where air circulation is necessary… Not with loose, floppy covers.
They will send you a replacement cover if yours is broken.
But I think I want the magnet charger too.
I had a charging port fail once I figured it was because I got lint in it. And cleaning it made charging unreliable.
I got it from Amazon and use it for almost all of my compatible devices. It comes with adapters for lightning, usb type c and micro usb charging ports, and the cable fits on them all. Works very well for me. I love it for my phone since my dogs have a tendency to jump on me or walk into my charging cord and yeet my stuff across the room. With this, the charger just disconnects. Plus I can use one cord for all my stuff. Very convenient. Keeps my charging ports clean and free of damage from constant plugging and unplugging too. Just search magnetic charger and read reviews (some have issues with the cables dying frequently). Most have an option to buy extra adapters if you need more. These don’t have the ability for data transfer, so be aware of that.
Thank you for that wonderful in depth explanation! I use a lot of tech but how it’s built is far beyond me lol. I can build a computer, but I don’t really understand it beyond this is called this and it goes here and attaches to that rofl.
This is the one I got, but I didn’t pay that price. I waited until it came up on Amazon’s lightning deals.
I highly recommend the more tips, the better. I don’t use the lightning ones, but got 4 x micro USB and 4 x Usb-C, and already wish I had more. Not sure if the connector tips are universal or not. I don’t like it for my phone, too slow, but they’ve been right handy for just about everything else. We might have a freakish amount of electronics, though.
