So I've been podding for about 3 months now, and I love it. But whenever I put a pod on my thighs, I end up with bruises and bleeding. I've never had a problem with absorbtion there but I can't seem to find a good spot on my thighs. I've been putting it in the front or outsides. Any suggestions? where do you put your pods on your thighs that works?
I had the same experience and just stopped putting it there. My other issue was I had a lot of occlusions there as well. So I just stopped.
My son wears his on the tops or sides of his thighs most of the time. We put it on vertically, with the cannula down. He has good success with the sites. Could just be your normal movement pattern is not conducive to that spot. For an 11 year old boy, it is perfect, because you almost never knock it off when you are slide tackling your friends :-)
I wear the pods on my arms and I get bruising there. My thighs do not work that good for me so I use my arms and lower back.
My daughter is an 11 yo podder, our endo suggested trying thigh today, she is a little scared about it… Got a pic?
Sorry, i don't right now and he has it on his tush at the moment. I would be happy to snap a picture of it when we do his next pod change. To be honest it is his favorite spot. We also use his arms and tush, but he would rather use his thighs above all else. I will send you a pic, Natalie, as soon as I can get one.
So right now I have it on my right thigh, a little bit off to the side and cannula facing down. So far it isn’t sore and I can’t see any bruise, just a little red spot so I’m happy. Maybe cannula down was the key
Glad it's working for you!
I use 7 sites on both right and left sides of my hip and buttocks that work best for me. #1 site is on the left right below my waistline on the back where it gets "fleshy". #3 is 2" below that down the buttocks with the cannula end of the pod near a line that goes down the side of my hip, # 5 is 2" below that, and #7 2" below that with the pod still fitting under my panty line #9 is towards the front and directly below my "hip bone" (where you put your hands on your hips). The back end of the pod is on the line that goes down from the hip bone and angled downward. #11, and #13 are each 2" under the one above it. Sites #2, #4, #6, #8, #10, #12, & #14 are in corresponding places on my right hip and buttocks. Theoretically, a site gets used only once every 42 days. Absorption seems ok as long as I don't get too far down my thighs. (I use a similar system for finger sticks: even days on my right hand thumb from 12a-9a, pointer from 9a-1p, middle from 1p-5p, ring from 5p-9p, pinky from 9p to 12a. From Day 1-15 I use the inside of the finger, from Day 16-30/31 I use the outside of the finger. This way I spread the joy fairly equally among my fingers which I've been pricking since 1986 when I got my first glucose meter.)
wow you have it down to a science good for you, reading it made me dizzy, i'm such a visual learner picture please! just kidding, my son is resistant to new sites just belly and arms so far, not as much luck with legs ( occlusions and bruising, but we will try again in the summer, good for the beach for my modest boy) you must be of been a math major in college jla!
I use sites on the insides of both thighs. I have gone cannula up and down, but down seems to work better. I do seem to get more occlusions on these sites, but not so many that I don't use them regularly. I've found this is the best site for basketball because it's more protected than the abdomen or upper arms.
