Vibe vs. Ping - any opinions?

Hi everyone!

I just recently upgraded from a OneTouch Ping to the Vibe. I kind of miss my Ping- being able to remote control my bolus' was a luxury I do not think I took advantage of. Also, my CGM did not seem very accurate (currently using dexcom g4 as well). Anyone other positive/negative feedback on the new model?

Regards,
D

I also upgraded but returned the Vibe after 36 hours. It failed horribly at replacing my Dexcom receiver -- six button presses to get to the CGM, a smoke-detector tone for low blood sugar, the same vibrate pattern for every single alert (high, low, battery low, etc), inability to upgrade to Dexcom's new software.... Plus there was a much much longer delay on the button presses for the audio bolus, which I use frequently, making it nearly impossible to use it for a bolus more than a unit or two.

They accepted my return without hassle (though I haven't yet seen a refund show up on my credit card.) I'll stick with my Ping for now, but I'm planning on switching to another pump company when my warranty expires this fall.

I don't want a vibe because I like having the remote for boluses. The Ping would be a pain because I usually wear the pump in a "Leg Thing" (except for during shorts weather, when it's in a pocket.)

I am staying with my ping for the time being while I am also using the DexCom G4 CGM I wanted the Share 2 receiver DexCom more than I wanted the DexCom Vibe integration. Also, I use the ping remote to bolus all the time and i feel like its the one thing they missed the boat on with this rev.... Hopefully in Vibe 2.0!!!

I have been on the new vibe about a month now and unlike most of you I really like it. But I rarely used my ping meter to do remote boluses. I have been using a Dexcom for two years now and am really enjoying not having to carry the receiver anymore. The initial alerts are not very loud but if ignored they get more annoying & hard to miss. I also like that I no longer have to re-enter the suggested bolus amount like the ping. After using Medtronic for 14 years, I am very pleased with Animas. The best thing is the well lit display. Have you ever seen Medtronic’s? It sucks. I even tried an Omnipod for 6 mos but had poor control. To me Dexcom + Animas are the best of both worlds.

Hi! I also really like not having to re-enter suggested bolus amount. Thats probably my favorite thing, hehe.

Which pump company do you plan on switching to? I have had both my pumps from animas.

Not sure yet. I've been with Disetronic/Animas since 2000, back when it was either Disetronic or Minimed. I know there's not a perfect option, but I'm hoping to find a better one than Animas.

Hi, Dan. You write that the Vibe you tried had six button presses to get to the CGM. My Vibe has only one. It´s the button on the top (the one with the key/light bulb symbol). WHen i press that button on my Vibe I get access to the screen that shows me what time it is, my BG, an arrow + IOB. That´s the most useful feature for me.

MamaLou you hit the nail on the head. I've been a long time Animas user IR1250. 2020, and the Ping. The only reason I got the Ping was because the 2020 was out of date. I used/use these pumps with Dexcom Seven+ and the G4.
I finger prick my blood check with any pump available at that time in my arsenal which are mainly Accu-Chek Plus models and the Ping meter. Seldom have I used the ping's remote capability as I wear my pumps on my belt out in the open so with the much clearer color screen of the pump I press the buttons on it. You can hardly read the Ping meter
You use what you get used to and I like the Animas pumps for their minute accuracy (although all of the competition has that now) due to that I use U500. I'm not pumping full units but 1/10 and 1/100 of a unit and the Animas Ping(2020) and Vibe do that great.
Besides having only one (two if you count your phone) piece of equipment on your belt, the main advantage to me is the CGM(Vibe) being waterproof as the G4 receiver isn't (don't ask me how I know)
Bottom lime I think the remote bolos/control is overrated.

Thanks, I was not aware of that.

I'm into my 6th week on the Vibe and really loving it.
The accuracy of the G4 has been amazing and I've learned a tweak to perform when it wanders off.
I'm not missing the remote at all but I stash the pump on my belt or a pocket so it's easy to get to for me.

Yup...not having to carry the glucose meter IS a big deal.

My opinion on the alarms is...it's new to me so it's my job to make adjustments and find what does and does not work for me. That has been a learning process but I've got it to a functional and effective place. I make adjustments when I'm out for meetings.

That the Vibe can use Apidra was a HUGE deal for me.
The only other pump I considered was the t:slim and it won't do Apidra.

Loving the Vibe

Like I said B-4 the great minute/fine control is a major plus for these Animas pumps like using Apidra and Humilin-R U-500.
Great you like it and isn't it nice to just have one item on you to control your diabetes.
