Hi. Thanks for bearing with me the other day. I have gone from being mad to just feeling lost. My dr hasn't been real good about followup. Do I do low carb? Atkins, Keto? I know alot bears on carbs. I just want to feel like a normal person again. I take multiple pills in the morning and don't like that. I just really don't know much about coping with this, but I am willing to learn. Been trying to read as much as I can. It is going to take some time and money to get my food sorted out, I have a limited budget and can't afford to just "clean out my pantry" I'm using things up first and will replace with healthy. How do I stop feeing so defective? The only thing that makes me feel whole right now is my workouts.
I'm sorry, not usually so depressing, just have a million and one questions, and not sure where to turn...
kamap, that's why we are here. We understand what it takes, and how it can be depressing and overwhelming. You're new to d, and there are so many things to learn, changes to make, and it's hard, and it's expensive. Sounds like the workouts are your first giant step in the right direction, keep up the good work! I was wondering if you could try meeting with a CDE (Certified Diabetes Educator). They can spend much more time with their patients than the doctor. here's one who came and spoke to us recently that I thought was great

come here whenever you feel lost. join the family in the chat room, listen to a live event, watch some videos. and if you need to rant, come here too!
Thanks, didn't realize you had videos!! I am meeting with a CDE on the 6th.
Here's our video library

also the one with the CDE Joe Solowiejczyk was really good too. these videos are recorded from our live chats (mostly) that we have every Thursday (and sometimes other days). To see what's coming up in events, click here

I hate to say it will be ok, but it will, I promise. We all get upset, at least I did, and in those days I did not have a good place to lay it. I am glad you found us and can lay your upset (really I did not see it as a big deal) here. This has likely caused you more concerned than anyone in the community. We are all great ranters.
Oh by the way saying hey I am sorry is not necessary for us, but if that helps, that is fine as well.
you came to the right place
we all help each other
day or night
You just need time to reach your new normal happily. I hate the pills, I hate the restrictive diet, I hate diabetes, but this is now my life and I have to accept it or be miserable for the rest of my time. Good luck.
I think you're doing a great job! You are already starting to deal with all of this. It's a huge adjustment. I would definitely do the low carb, as low as you can go. And I would consider just giving the food away on freecycle.org or to friends, the things you won't be eating now, and go out and get whatever you'll replace it with, put it on a credit card etc. You will feel much better when you're eating food that is better for you and which hopefully helps with the bg management. That is great you're enjoying the work outs!
Thanks so much all!! Wish I had a credit card, but I don't. I will just weed thru as much as possible, and go as I can. I will definetly buy healthier foods from now on!
