Both my sister’s have joined and find it so beneficial and think with my diabetes that it would be so helpful, but I cannot imagine counting points along with my bloodsugars and carbs.
I need to lose 10 lbs and have thought about joining.
No. I can personally say that I’m doing well using myfitnesspal.com, and on the plus side it’s totally free and has a great phone app as well. You’d be counting calories, and then it keeps track of other nutritional info for you. There are thousands of foods already in the food database. It works by assessing your weight, gender, height, age, activity level…and then puts you at a deficit of 500 calories a day on average, which should help you lose 1lb a week.
I’ve been with it 2 weeks and have lost 4.5lbs (I think some of it was water weight).
I tried Weight Watchers and ended up quitting. As you said, I couldn’t take counting points as well as carbohydrates (especially because they do points by volume and I do carbohydrates by weight, usually). I also got frustrated going and seeing everyone lose 1-2+ pounds per week while I would lose like 0.2 or 0.6 per week.
I think it’s easier to count calories if you are already counting carbohydrates, personally. The “points” are for people who are not used to looking at food labels and tracking what they eat, but for those of us who already do it’s almost “too simple”, or so I found.
My wife does weight watchers. This diet would kill me in no time. Whenever I want to lose weight I reduce my TDD. Starting two weeks ago I cut out snacks and my TDD went down by 40%. All meals I kept the same. My guess is that I will be down 10 lbs in a month.
I am!! And lost 44 lbs…basically following points is the same as carb counting…just wrapped differently. Used (and still use ) the weekly meetings to remind myself that I didn’t GAIN the weight by magic…I gained it by overeating when I didn’t need to. Alot of what they say applies to ANYONE who is trying to modify behavior…and I just ignore the parts that don’t or can’t apply to me. Also…kind of nice to be in a room of other people who also need to pay atention to everything they eat!!
