I have been on the Omnipod for about 3 months, and I change my pods every day and a half to 2 days as my dosage is on the high side for now. I never had a poriblems with getting the pod to stick on it's own, for the duriation of wearing it..... till the last couple of weeks, I do what I always do, cleans with alchole swabs and wait for it to dry then stick the pod on.
it always starts to unstick around the cannual area within a dew hours. and I have been sticking medical tape on it to hold. I am really not for the skin tac and I have a rather hard time getting the pod off if I do use it.
any ideas why it is suddenly not wanting to stick?
I have already read other posts with ideas for sticking it on, I am just curious as to why it suddenly does not like sticking to me.
I used to have a hard time with the Skin Tac, until I started dousing it with rubbing alcohol when removing. Now it comes off even the most sensitive areas like a dream. I tend to use a bottle + cotton balls versus the alcohol wipes though, that way you can get it good and saturated. The other option is steaming it off in the shower, but it's not always the most convenient time-wise.
Ideas on non-adhesion.. You could call OmniPod CS and see if there are reported issues with that batch?
Where do you live? Any more sweaty or warmer than normal? When are you changing it during the day? Same time as you used to? Or are you putting on a new pod at the end of the day w/o showering, etc (which would cause an increase in the oil on your skin, despite the use of an alc pad)?
I use skin tac but understand the "hard time getting it off" part, so perhaps just trying to pod change only right after a shower (still using the alc pad) may help resolve the issue and keep you from having to resort to the sticky stuff?
Something I noticed is that when my BGs run a bit higher for a long period, my pods have a harder time sticking. I believe this is due to sweating more from the high BG. As long as I can keep my BG numbers where the should be, I get both less trouble with the pods staying put, and longer life for each pod.
Have you recently changed any of the products you apply to your skin? For example, bath/shower soap or gel, moisturizer, lotions, etc. Those things can probably all affect adhesion.
It could be some lotion you've been using. Do you tan? I personally never use alcohol wipes because they dry out my skin. Why don't you try a Tagaderm. Place that on first, then the Pod. The Tagaderm adheres great. like saran wrap, with no irritants. The white cloth sticks perfectly and stays on much better. It doesn't deteriorate either. There are many threads on here about it.
I live in Montreal, Quebec. When I started the pods it was much warmer then it is now, plus I when I started I was swimming daily in a salt pool with no problems.
I very rarely get to shower before putting a pod on as I usally end up changing it just before lunch or just after lunch, and on the weekend when I have to change it and have just been out of the shower, it is still the same effect.
I shall see if I can get Tagaderm here in Quebec. I'm willing to give it a try.I did read about that in other posts like I stated in my above post, I wasn`t looking for an alternative. Just a reason as to why it wasn`t sticking. I have not changed anything since October,
I think IV prep is about halfway between an alcohol wipe and skin tac. (It's been a while since I used it with my old MM pump).
FWIW, I always have adhesion issues when the seasons change. Right now my skin is so dry that they are sticking like crazy and hurt to high heaven when I rip them off. I wish your skin and my skin could meet in the middle :)
I have changed the position to wear my pods. Used to wear them on my abdomen now on my arms. The pods stick much better now in general and especially during work-out.
My son has never had "sticking" problems even though he plays ice hockey and sweats a lot. If you don't want to try Skin Tac, you might want to try a barrier wipe like Bards. The pod might stick to it better than just your skin.
My son uses it to prevent itchiness but the pod seems to stick to it well.
my skin is actually on the dry side too, which is why I never had a problem with them sticking. I think it was just a problem batch as I started a new box today and did not have the problem at all.
