Young dandelions are delicious eaten as salad. In france we generally eat them with bits if bacon, and even a poached egg, for a full meal!
This morning (itās 948am where I live) Iāve already had 9 Splenda packets! 4 in my 2 coffeeās, 3 in my oatmeal, and now 2 more in my mid morning iceād coffeeā¦ I also use diet yogurt which Iām sure has artificial sweeteners of some kind. Oh myā¦I think I better figure out how to curb this!!
That does seem excessive to me. Have you tried to cut back or even stop before?
Every week, cut back 1-2 packets/day and within a few weeks you will no longer crave the Splenda habit. It takes a few days to adjust to a less sweet food or drink so just take it 1 step at a time and you will promptly no longer miss it.
When I first started to become a vegan I was a vegetarian and loved milk and drank it with every meal. When I tried to stop cold turkey I started to get heartburn etc just because I was so used to it. So what I did every day is pour a 1/4 to a 1/2 inch less in my glass and it took me a month to get down to about an inch in my glass and was able to stop it with no issues.
So if itās easier try 1/4 less packet at a time for a few days. I bet you wonāt notice. You are just used to using a whole packet.
BTW when I stopped milk I realized I felt better, I never got bronchitis again, what I thought was I ate too much feeling turned out to be a dairy digestion issue because that stopped too. I bet you feel better when you stop or cut down Splenda as itās supposed to mess with your digestion.
Hi Marilyn6,
Iām T1, also dx 1959. My meals are very, very similar because I also follow the āMastering Diabetesā low fat, whole food, plant based, diet. I rarely track my daily intake, maybe 2 times a month, weighing everything using the āCronometerā app. I.e. my last meal tracking day I ate 101 g protein, all plant based, (more than my target goal of 60g) 333 g carbs, 22 g fat, for 2342 calories. Total insulin for that day was 35u, my time in range (70-180) was 87%, 0% hi, 12% low. My A1Cās have ranged for several years between 5.2-5.8. Iām 5ā-9" 130 lbs.
Probably like you I have tried every diabetic diet known to man. I have had fairly good control on many of the various diets I have tried, but this is by far the best I have felt eating this way in decades. My control is about the same as with ultra low carb (Bernstein) but how much better I feel is extraordinary.
I am so glad to hear this Franco. Your experience sounds so much like mine. I feel so much healthier than I did with Dr. Bernsteinās way of eating.
I have never figured out how much protein I am eating, but when low carbing my protein level was always borderline low and now it is fine. I guess all the legumes give me better protein levels than dairy and meat did. Quite surprising.
Happy to hear that you were also diagnosed in 1959.
This is my new cat, @Marie20. He is a fine and majestic beast. He has been exploring the yard as if it is the moon. He is also eating the dandelions. I have competition for my new food source.
yes, and although I was able to cut back on coke zero, I would rather not eat oatmeal or drink coffee than ingest either without sweetener! I decided to stick to 2 coffees and had apple and almonds with cinnamon vs my usual oatmeal, which brings me to 4 packs instead of 9, so I guess thatās progress!
@mohe0001 Thatās a gorgeous cat!!!
Holy cow! This new diet of war food is making me fat. Iāve been noticing a little difficulty breathing. I bet I gained 10 lbs this month. Iām gonna have to start digging trenches. What the heck should I do? Get a pair of headphones and start walking 10 miles a day? You think that would cut it? 10 miles?
The experts say that diet is the most important factor of weight loss. Not exercise.
Nope!!! Weight loss is 90%-95% based on what you eat and only 5%-10% exercise. Exercise makes you feel great and has other benefits as well such as help control BG and Cholesterol levels but weight loss through exercise is a myth when on insulin.
Approximates
It will take you about a mile of walking to burn 5 crackers. Whereas itās easier not to eat the crackersā¦
You burn about 100 calories per mile walked or ran.
An extra 3500 calories is an extra pound of body weight.
Cutting out an extra 100 calories a day will lose you about a pound in a little over a month.
This is all simplistic as how much you weigh when walking, if itās uphill or not, what your personal metabolism is (we all know the person who can eat plates of food and not gain) will vary person to person. Did you know there was a study years ago that smelling chocolate cake was the same as eating 2 calories?
Exercise helps keep your metabolism from slowing down, but itās very hard to lose weight by ājustā exercise. But exercise keeps our bodies healthy, it seems to almost be a requirement to staying healthy and for our body to function right.
I think I need to drop my basal. Low all day today. Walked doggy 2 1/2 hrs, dug a trench, murdered sumac bushes. Low all day. Needed to eat constantly.
Thatās just asking to gain weight! If I do extra activities like snorkeling I do a temporary reduction in basal levels.
Eating for your insulin will always easily make you gain weight versus taking your insulin for what you eat.
When I was on MDI I think that is a mistake I often made because I would take a shot to cover a meal and snack and then had to make sure I ate a certain amount.
And even though I prebolus now with my pump I only do so when I know I want to eat something and itās more geared to what I want to eat. I do half as a prebolus a half hour before and then the other half when I eat which allows me to adjust to what I actually ate.
OMG! Today: 1,) I cut my basals, across the board, 25%; 2.) Swore off any bolus whatsoever; 3.) Ate between 30 and 45 grams of carb every 1-2 hours to keep from crashing.
I am WAY off the mark. Apparently, there have been some adjustments needed pre and post apocolypse. Been dropping the ball, I guess.
Sounds like youāve been cured. Congrats!
Vegetable and pork stirfry with teriyaki sauce served with a side of low GI basmati rice. Ever since the 1980s when diabetics starting dying like flies of heart attacks 10 years after the first Atkins wave I have avoided low or no carb or keto like the plague and I am all the healthier for it, of course on the condition I do a walk after each meal.
