This is a post taken from my blog “Randombetes”. You can find the original blog at: http://urocktoday2.blogspot.com/
We call it “Trash”. I TOTALLY TOTALLY LOVE this snack. We make it every Thanksgiving and Christmas. As you can see, it’s uh, really a carb fest. Let’s see… rice chex, corn chex, wheat chex, cheerio’s, pretzels, and all different kinds of nuts, covered in a mixture of butter, bacon grease, Worcestershire sauce, Tobasco sauce, garlic salt and a bit of seasoned salt. The sauce is brought to a boil in a sauce-pan, then poured over and mixed into the crunchies. We then slow cook it in a huge electric roaster/cooker thingy (yes, I know, I AM highly technical LOL) Anyway, we cook it for 4-5 hours on a low heat, stirring it every 10-15 minutes.
It lasts about 10 minutes once we start eating it, cuz all of the neighbors show up with a bowl in their hand HA HA. Not kidding, they really do… every year. It makes for some fun times.
So... make your own, tell your neighbors, and see what happens.
We probably triple the following recipe, and modify it to our liking as to spiciness...
Original recipe:
1 box Wheat Chex
1 box Rice Chex
1 box Corn Chex
2 cups Thin Pretzels
2 cups Cheerios
1 cup mixed nuts
(optional-gold fish crackers)
Heat the following together
2 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp. seasoned salt
2 sticks butter
1/2 cup bacon grease
2 tsp. garlic salt
2 tbsp. Tobasco sauce
Pour over mixed cereal and nuts in roaster, cook at 250 until dry and crunchy, and brown to taste.
Indeed , this would serve a few hungry Turkeys…and it’s ( and looks !!) mouth watering
Oh my…looks interesting (based on the ingredients, looks yummy too) Ive never had (or seen) this before =)
I’ll make the low carb version: salt, butter, grease, JUST KIDDING!! Sounds good.
Add a little cayene pepper too.
