Walking?
Wish I could call any excersise a favorite. I am trying to ride my bike at least 4 to 7 times a week depending on weather. I started a week 2 weeks ago and want to work up to 5 miles a day.
Honestly, I don’t enjoy exercise. Period. But I know it’s good for me. I usually use my elliptical machine or take brisk walks. But I just started a couch-to-5K walk/jog program with my 12-year-old son and we’ve had a lot of fun with it so far. Only on week 2, but it’s been very doable so far.
I used to be a mermaid in a previous life, I swear. I love swimming. It is the best for a person with my knees, low impact. I love the silence of the water, rather cools my head off too. I hate to sweat, so this is perfect. A clue for those who don’t have access to public pools in the winter, check with the motels in your area, many are allowing locals to use their pools, some for a price, some for nothing. Our AmericInn has a 12 time punch card for $20…much cheaper than our Y.
My second choice would be my recumbant bike. Our clinic, is a Native American clinic, and as we know that population of people is high in diabetes. So with a diabetic grant they started a gym on the premises. Granted, it’s not big, nor fancy, just two treadmills, a recumbant bike, a stair step, exercise mats, and another bike I have no idea what it is, oh, I forgot the much needed 46 inch tv…but the point is, it allows us to do different exercises and keep our momentum going. GREAT!
I use the pool three times a week, no weekends, because the patrons are many at this inn. And the bike, twice a week, no weekends because the clinic is closed. That leaves me Sat and Sun to do pilates or my sitting exercises on my own time.
I do interval running/walking using the musical ques from www.podrunner.com, usually three days a week. On alternate days I do strength training, often with weights. Sometimes I do it at the gym, and sometimes at home.
Couch-to-5K all the way! I’m with Kelly on this, and Maureen, Podrunner Rocks! I use the Podrunner Intervals. My lovely bride even joined me in the first week of the interval training. We jog/walk every other day. In between C25K, I am trying to reach my goal of 50 push ups, 50 sit ups and 20 pull ups before the end of the year.
Anyone else notice how big of a jump Week 1 to Week 2 is in C25K?

Hey, what week are you on?
Well, I was on week 2, just started it and my lovely bride decided to join me so I went back to week 1 to be able to run with her. I’m doing extra now, like jogging through 3 cycles, a 60, 90 and 60 again. I know it’s a bit more than what they recommend. I’m kinda jogging in place as she walks for the 90, but I’m still feeling my heartrate is up. I’ve got outpatient surgery coming up, so will probably have to pause my C25K for a couple of weeks while I recover. Then I’m hoping to be back on track and hitting my goal of non-stop jogging for 5k. Might take me a few more weeks than 9, but we’ll see. How about you Kelly? What week are you on?
Walking. I TRY to walk 3 times a week for at least a half of an hour - do I usually suceed with my goals - no. Just being honest. Walking definitely has the most impact on my BG - a brisk 30 minute walk and bam - BG low.
Me, I walk 5 days a week weather permitting, I used to love to hike in the mountains and lost that with vascular disease, quad bypass later it is coming back slowly, legs still can’t quite handle much uphill, I don’t consider it exercise, for me it is means to an end, I want to get back to dark hollow falls. Weekends walking gets replaced by yard work every weekend and trying to keep up with my 8yr old granddaughter every other weekend.
Weightifting 3 to 5 times a week and running about 15 miles a week.
I run 3-3.5 miles in the morning 45 minutes after breakfast and then either swim .5 miles in the evening, or if the pool is not option i run another 2.5 - 3 miles 45 minutes after dinner. I do that every day M-F. on the weekends i only run if i have to and prefer doing smims for my morning exercise, but i just cant get in the pool before 8:30 am so that is relegated to the weekend. For the weekends i swim 52 laps in the morning (1 mile) and i’m trying to work in more laps in the evening but i putter out after about 15 laps in the evening. When i need a change, ill usually go hiking. i have a lot of great trails within a few miles so plenty of options there. i hope to stat weight lifting soon and core training along with some biking.
Turbokick
I rotate between pilates and aerobic weight training videos at home. When my bg goes low at home I am still able to get ready for work on time. If I am at a gym, then I have to wait until bg is safe to drive home. Just doesn’t work for me. I also walk in the evenings with my husband and three dogs. It would be nice if I were exercising everyday but that doesn’t happen. Usually 4-5 days per week. I am on my feet all day walking all over the hospital all day and take the stairs. It isn’t aerobic exercise but it is activity and is better than having a desk job.
I dislike exercise programs, so I pretend I’m not exercising by lots of brisk walks. I also do weights & gardening. Nothing lowers my BG like digging, weeding, raking.
I love exercise that is fun…my number one FAVORITE is snowboarding!
2.) Just got into Paddleboarding for this summer ( Stand- surf board with a paddle)
3.) Kayacking
4.) Hiking
5.) Mountain biking through trails that are rough, but not too hardcore!—I find road biking not as enjoyable.
6.) Swimming is cool and I like to use my Aqua Jogger ( look it up if you’re into finding something low impact)
Starting to see a theme here…? I love the outdoors haha
My go-to exercise is running though. I don’t have any pain in my knees, but sometimes my hips feel out of line.
Weight-lifting gives me a nice endorphin high…so I try to do this a few times a week. (But lately I have been doing more outdoorsy things with the nice weather)
For some reason I get bored with Yoga…I like Pilates though and step aerobics ( did them throughout college but graduated a year a ago and don’t do any classes anymore )
Walking…park and treadmill. Medium to high intensity with elevation angle sometimes.
I also like dance aerobics, taebo, zumba exercises.
Plus, nothing beats chasing my two little white terriers around!
Wow… Turbo Kick looks like a pretty intense workout.
Nag, only at first. I think there are some far harder programs like insanity or p90x
I enjoy biking, 8 miles a day, 5 to 6 days a week.
