Which pump do I use?

I have recently been diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes (3 weeks today). I’m 13 years old. I am ready for the pump and should be getting one in 2 months. But, the question is, which pump should i use? The two I am considering are the Animas 2020 and the MiniMed Paradigm. I have been reading and many of the reveiws favor the Animas. Can anyone please tell me what they use and what they think would be the right pump for me at my age? I don’t mind if the pump shows really and I can just try to cover it with my clothes. Though I am in Middle School and do mind how I look, to me, my health is more important! Thank you!

Hi Nicolette!

Your attitude is very mature! You are right that your health is more important. But no matter which pump you choose, more people will think that it is an MP3 player or cell phone until you tell them! So pumps are not ugly

Also, we all know that it is not easy to get diagnosed with diabetes. So there will be good days and bad days. Feel free to write to us WHENEVER you need support. Also, there is a lot to learn… so you can write your questions to us about anything at anytime.

As to which pump you should choose, everyone has different opinions on which pump is better and usually everyone thinks that THEIR pump is the best. The best way to choose a pump is to see both of them and talk to both of the company representatives and compare. They will often come to your home and show you the pump. Or they will meet you at your doctor’s office.

Also, do you know about Animas PING? That is the newer pump from Animas. You should check it out!

Here are some old discussions that might give you some information about the pumps (you can search the old discussions by clicking on “Forum” above and typing some key words and clicking search.)

Thanks soo much! I really like the Animas Ping and its really hard to chose between the minimed and the animas! I think that the constant monitering of your blood sugar is very useful but I also like the many features that the animas ping provides…TOUGH decisions

Hey
I just started the Omnipod, and I love it
It’s tube-less!

Im not really into the Omnipod though. Don’t get me wrong, its a great pump but I am really heading towards getting the Animas 2020 now. I don’t mind if it has tubes…i just want to feel normal again!
