Wish me luck

Sorry. Have to tell someone and I was diagnosed the end of April with t1 and had my first endo appt. A1c was 12.8! I go in tomorrow to get tested…been on Levemir and novolog. I’m hoping good news. Are there specifics I need to address? My meter says my 30 day average is 117. Been doing well other than diabetes sucks. But in good spirits and feel good.

Good luck! I’m diagnosed as T2, but my A1c at diagnosis was 11.8 – my 3-month, however, was 6.5 (which converts to approximately 140). Sounds like you’re doing pretty well, so far. Main thing is that you’re feeling good – the A1c is not a “report card” – just use it as a gauge to see that you’re going in the right direction.

Thanks Thad. I feel like it’s a report card which is funny you said that. You are absolutely right. Made me smile. Unfortunately that’s how I feel. Haha

Sounds like you are doing well with your blood glucose. The healthiest way of looking at your individual fingersticks and A1c is that they are signposts to suggest what to do next. It’s not a report on your worth as a human being.

I like to celebrate and take credit when my numbers are good and look at the bad ones as simply the reality of diabetes. I imagine your A1c is going to be way better than 12.8%. Good luck.

I don’t think this can be reiterated enough. Every number we get that’s associated with this chronic condition is a datapoint that guides your decisions. That’s it! Every number is a reflection of what’s already happened - aka the past. We can’t change the past, we can only act on the current moment.

For me, I know every day will bring multiple diabetic decision points (is this a new D-term - MDDP??, LOL!). I try to make the best decision I can, knowing that life and the human body presents too many variables for me to be perfect.

Congrats on your 30-day average, BTW. I never approached a number that low during my first 25 years of diabetes.

I would echo what others have said. You are doing great.

One suggestion I have is to discuss with your endo a plan how you can become more competent and comfortable with taking care of yourself. Are you counting carbs and dosing your insulin? Do you know how to make certain kinds of adjustments to you basal? Have you had an intensive insulin class and should you have one? Does you endo recommend a good book?

And most seriously, ask your endo what tests you should have and what specialists to see. You should see whether you have any complications, I know it is scary but many of us already had complications upon diagnosis. They may be minor, but it is better to know and treat and manage them if you know about them. And often, with good blood sugar control your body should heal itself. And you may need to see some specialists such as an ophthalmologist or see you dentist if you have not seen one. This is just a routine matter of preventative care to take good care of yourself when you have diabetes.

Let us know what happens!! good luck!

Nothing new to report. My endo asked if I was interested in the pump or CMG and I said the CMG…most likely will rehash at my next appt. in Sept. Didn’t get bloodwork or change anything. He basically was open to any treatment in regards to pump…what basal I prefer etc. Just have to make an eye appt. No news is good news and so glad I found out more about type one through you guys. Thanks for your continued support. Just keep truckin I suppose.
