YAY..ish!

HbA1c levels

November 20, 2013 - 10.0
March 12, 2014 - 7.3

Pretty excited with that drop! Had I waited another month it would have been in the mid 6's. I got my Dexcom on Jan 14, 2014 and it has made a HUGE!!! difference. I love having the constant data to make the changes I need. Also, not on a pump, just shots - Lantus and Humalog.

Go Dexcom! and...I have to pat myself (and my wife) on the back a little. I have been carb counting, exercising 40-60 minutes 5-7 times a week, on top of the Dex, taking about 20 reading a day.

Pretty happy right now

Goodonya!

I would hope you could calm down on the "20 reading a day" now that the Dex is part of your regimen. Why test so much? Just do the calibrations and then go with the flow. Do you still find you cannot trust what the Dex tells you?

Aussie,

Good for you!! An improvement like that is quite impressive indeed. Keep up the good work, and know that we’re all here to support you should you ever need advice or encouragement!

I, for one, cannot understate the impact that weighing my food and regular exercise has had on my diabetes management. That, plus the information from the Dexcom and my Omnipod, makes it so so easy!

I was doing 4ish, before Dex came into my life. Since I have had it I do the 15-20 tests. It just gives me a sense of security.

Also, I have only ever used my stomach as a Dex site - hesitant to try other places.

Kovi,

Congrats! Yes, that is a huge improvement. As you get to know the Dex and your routines better, I hope you will see even lower HbA1Cs in the future.

What was your exercise routine prior? I might have some concerns about maintaining that pace long-term, if it were me.

Wear your happiness where all may see it!

Thanks so much!

Just one of the things as a result of exercising, I have gone from taking 14U of lantus a night to 7.

very little exercise prior - maybe 1-3 times a week.

What concerns do you have? How much do you do? Do you find it enough?

I am wearing it. Unfortunately, it has been waaaaaay too long since I have been able to.

Congats Aussie

I'd give your upper arm a shot. Roughly where your triceps is. Just try and find a fatty area closer towards the armpit, and you might like it. That's where I get the most longevity for sure - I am able to go at least two weeks, sometimes more, using my arm.

However, I still also prefer the stomach just because it is easier to put on, and for me, just as out of the way.

That's great as well! Less insulin is absolutely preferable.

I am perplexed that putting it on your arm is not in the way. I see many many many people suggesting it, but I just don't get how it is not. Maybe next one.

I kind of want my stomach space back so I can use it for my shots.

Thanks!

I hear ya, Aussie.

I use only the outside on my biceps on my arms -- I have pretty damn good tracking there (stomach is too sensitive).

I think just because it's so incredibly small, and even if you do knock into it, it isn't a big deal again due to the small size. It's very hard for me to describe where it ends up being, but it's essentially on the back of your arm - in that way, it's behind you and not sticking out. I only ever remember it's there when I'm putting on or taking off a t-shirt and I have to be careful not to rip it off.

Okay. I will give it a try. Thanks!

Congrats on your success! You should be very proud of yourself! I started on the DEx4 too on January 1st. Hoping to see a drop on my a1C soon. last a1c was 7.2; hoping to get it back down to the mid 6/s. Keep up the good work - and it is a lot of work!

Thanks!

I am sure you will achieve your goal. With the Dex, exercise and carb counting it is the right formula for good results.

Good luck!

I can’t wait to hear another nurse or doctor tell me my a1c is not accurate for I would need to many lows to achieve that. Ha ha yeah well not with my side kick Mr. Panky as I flash them my CGM and strut down the hall and out the door. Lol oh so evil but can’t wait for one more person saying that to me.

I can't believe people have actually told you that!! I find that hilarious. And a bit frustrating, I'm sure. But still.

It took me a while to find an Endo I actually like, and my current one is fantastic. Very supportive and encouraging, and is finally willing to work with me on my diabetes care instead of shuffling me out the door to make room for his next patient. Oy vey.

That is horrible. Clearly there are some very uneducated doctors and nurses out there.

Keep up the good work!!
