Did Tudiabetes sell your email?

Not angry just frustrated, If I sounded angry I do apologize.

That’s fine Gary. No worries.

The thread from yesterday that was unlisted and disappeared kind of added to the issue for me. It made it seem like there was more to it. But I appreciate the info from everyone.

ā€œConflict of interestā€ is one of those incendiary phrases that tends to raise peoples’ hackles. It’s a great verbal trigger if you want to stir people up.

However, that’s not what is going on here. As a public official who must regularly file financial reports with the state Ethics Commission, I get trained every year on this subject. A true conflict occurs when the connection is concealed, either intentionally or otherwise, and action is then taken that can benefit the hidden agenda. There is no concealment here. Everyone connected with TuD and BT1 has been entirely up front about the relationship(s) and how they affect behavior.

We get used to thinking of many things on the web as being free, but of course there are very few things that are truly free. Somebody has to pay for hosting the site, access to the Internet, software etc.

As far as I’m concerned getting an occasional email is a good trade off for receiving free access to TuD.

Thanks to all the volunteers who work many hours for free and thus keep costs even lower.

Perception is everything. The perception existed before the phrase was used.

Hiding the original thread also didn’t help. Looked a bit like concealment to me.

Here you go! The press release was written by Livingo; there is nothing to hide, nor more explanations to be given. Your information is safe, and it has not been sold to anyone, isn’t that your preoccupation?

@David_dns Poor judgement resulting in the diminishing of trust and conflict of interest are two completely different things. I think this issue pertains more to the former.

My point precisely.

LOL…Three days after I was dx in 2007, I started receiving pamphlets and emails about diabetes. I figure Kaiser ā€œsoldā€ my info a long time ago…If there is anyone I trust with my info, it is TuD!..

As to the new folks. I have no reason to trust them at this point. But I rely on TuD to have trusted them with all of us, so they can’t be all bad…

No one bought mine nor are they using my email for spam. Nonsense.

I haven’t had any spam mail from TuD either.

Wow. I’m late to this party and I have to say I’m a bit embarrassed and hurt by some of the comments here. We have to appreciate that running TuD and EsTuD has always taken money. Our community is approaching 100,000. And DHF has always raised money from corporate sponsors. And it is almost always based on some mutually beneficial arrangement. Even our BigBlueTest always operated with a corporate sponsor. If it had been possible to support our community based on donations from our members that would have been great, but DHF and most diabetes organizations cannot raise enough money that way.

And the field of diabetes charities has become overloaded. It is really hard to raise funds. You all may not have realized this but it has been very difficult time for DHF. DHF has always sent us messages about sponsorship activities and for fundraising. This should be absolutely no surprise. I am sure that our founder Manny Hernandez was the inspiration for the Livongo sponsorship and I am frankly grateful. As has been repeated, DHF/BT1 never sells your private information. You can choose whether or not you care to go with Livongo, but if you do they will donate money to us. If you don’t like these sorts of messages you can unsubscribe.

All of the TuD positions on these matters are part of the privacy policy, advertising policy and terms of service which you can read at Tudiabetes.org. The comments here imply some conspiracy to spam our members and reveal private information. For those that have worked really hard to build our community and to those who have donated their time and money those sorts of comments hurt. And it is embarrassing to think our community would make accusations of such behavior. I’m sorry to those that were bothered by the message, you can unsubscribe using the link at the bottom of the email. But when the end of the year comes around consider making a donation to support TuD and EsTuD through BT1.
