Medtronic's newest pump

Did you see Medtronic has a 640G coming out 12/2015? I'm so excited that it finally has a new updated screen! And, just in time for my upgrade.

I hate to rain on your parade, but the release date of January 2015 is for the UK. If the experiences of the Veo/530G and Animas Vibe are anything to go by, it may be a while before this pump is availablke in the USA. These models appeared in Europe fully 3 years before the US.

Awe, you just rained on my parade!!!

I read this information off of DiaTribe. "640G is expected to launch in Europe by April 2015 and a US trial of the device is starting very soon".

I read this information on Facebook..."We are excited to announce your patients will be the first people in the world able to access this breakthrough technology from mid Jan 2015".

While I will not argue that it could be a long time before the 640g shows up in the US, I also think it may show up sooner, possibly toward the end of 2015?

One of the reasons I think it took so long for the Veo aka 530g to get approved was that the FDA created a new device category for it: Threshold Suspend Device System. &deity. only knows what the paperwork for that was like.

Hopefully now that the precedent has been set, the 640g may get approved sooner. Maybe? Possibly? Could be?

Doesn't really matter too much to me since I don't have any chance of getting one until my current warranty expires in March of 2017. While I wait I'll be trying to figure out how much, if any, of my existing kit I can continue to use with the 640g.

Aside from the pump, it looks Minimed has changed the CGM transmitter and the BG meter. I wonder if the soon to be "old" Contour Next BG meter will still be able to send BG results to the 640g or if you'll need to use the ContourĀ® Next LINK 2.4" BG meter?

So many questions but so very much time to get them answered. ;-)

I guess what I am most curious about is if Minimed has made any changes to the Enlite sensor. I couldn't tell from what I've seen so far.
