Unconference

Anybody going this year? I know VA is not as fun as Las Vegas…They haven’t posted an agenda.

Actually I’d pick VA over Las Vegas 7 days a week, but finances don’t permit the trip this year.

The Unconference is a great venue to focus on the pyscho-social aspects of living with diabetes. I’ve been to three of them, despite the fact that they were in Las Vegas. I’m not a fan of the casino atmosphere but I understand the draw of good air service, good climate, and competitive hotel accommodations that the conference organizer sees in Las Vegas.

I understand that the spring/winter Diabetes Unconference will not be in Nevada next year due to some untoward decision made by the Nevada legislature that harms people with diabetes.

The Virginia conference this month is co-situated and coordinated with the Diabetes Sisters conference. It will be a good one.

Me neither. Intensely not.

ROFL. We have different perspectives on the climate. I grew up in that exact same climate. Now I don’t mean to give the impression that I was impatient, but . . . 48 hours after high school graduation, I was moved out and gone.

I went to the first 2 conferences in LV. I thought they were great, but chose not to go this past year in LV.

Regarding agenda, you won’t find one, other than a general schedule of times. That’s what makes it an UNconference. Those who register were sent questionnaire to indicate topics they want to be discussed. There were parts where everyone was in same session, and times we broke into groups to cover topic we were interested in.

As for the upcoming one, I don’t know how integration with Diabetes Sisters will be done. I considered going, but have conflicts with the dates.

I’ll be attending again this year. As I live in VA, I’m surprised to find it is less interesting than LV. Maybe I should move.

I once won $39.00 of nickels in the Las Vegas airport at 1:00 AM. With my plane leaving at 2:45 AM. Oh yeah, memories.
