Who has had the H1N1 vaccination.....how about your famiy members?

Here is the information for the clinics. Also I have noticed that Walgreens in my area has signs that they have the H1N1 available. I dont know how much they are charging but I know the city is doing them for free. I got mine Friday and the wait was about an hour so that was not too bad

How to get vaccine

To get an H1N1 vaccination at an Austin/Travis health department clinic, an appointment is required. Call 972-5520.

Three more clinics are scheduled from 1 to 6 p.m. on the following dates:

Dec. 11, Burger Center, 3200 Jones Road.

Dec. 15, Delco Center, 4601 Pecan Brook Drive.

Dec. 17, Burger Center.

I guess I am confused about what some places are considering hi risk, because here they considered me high risk because of my diabetes…and I got my shot a while ago. So they don’t consider diabetes a high risk everywhere? How is that determined for adults, does anyone know?

hi cathy, i will get my h1n1 on monday i work for the state at residental facility , i be exposed to all bacteria, i am glad we are getting ours, hope you get yours soon, take care

Got mine about a month ago. My youngest daughter is expecting her first child next month & I don’t want to take any chances. Otherwise, I might not have bothered.

Here in Las Vegas they only allowed certain groups of folks receive the vaccination due to the shortage of vaccine. I received mine about 3 weeks ago. The regular flu shot I received a few weeks before that. I feel a sense of relief knowing that I have had both vaccinations due to the rising numbers of deaths in the city of folks who had underlying medical conditions such as diabetes. My endocrinologist was fairly insistent that I receive both shots

Peggy, now that the vaccinations have been released to all, how are the people receiving the vaccinations, meaning are they doing it, or not? Our largest city had over 10,000 shots/nasal to give out this week, and they had four clinics, more than enough opportunity. Yet, people didn’t come to get them, because they figured they’d made it this far without it, why go for it now? Did they charge for your vaccinations? Ours didn’t, but my son’s in Austin TX did…interesting to me. My CDE also INSISTED (no arguments about it) that I get both of them also.

I just got mine yesterday. My doctor said they had given it first to children, then people with a history of resperatory disorders (because they were more likely to have complications or fatalities from H1N1). He said diabetes was considered a “higher” risk but not “high risk”. As long as I got the vaccine I don’t care what they consider me! After waiting so much longer than expected it seems kind of anti-climatic. I did wake up this morning with a bit of a stuffed nose though the nurse said it had no side effects (not even the sore arm of the regular flu shot I got weeks ago!). I’m probably just fighting a cold.

Zoe, just take care of yourself, no one should be sick at Christmas.

Thanks, Cathy!

I finally got one yesterday after I was briefly on a waiting list.My daughter got hers and my son prefers the nasal one because he doesn’t like needles.

I had the shot in Chicago along with my pneumonia vaccine - I am participating in the islet cell transplantation study though… up until I went to the doctor in Chicago (I live three hours south) I hadn’t been able to get the H1N1. The nurse told me that next year they plan to have the H1N1 incorporated into the regular seasonal flu shot…

How do I say YEAH!!!

I live in Kansas City, got my shot about 2 weeks ago. Then they were only giving to high risk groups, but now, a lot of locations in town are giving the shots to anyone. I think supply has finally outstripped demand for the shots.

They just announced last week that my state (MA) has plenty of flu vaccine for anyone who wants it, but I’m still unable to find a place that’s giving it to any but high-risk categories. My local VNA just announced a more open clinic for January, but it’s only the flu mist, which I’ve been told not to take.

Having already caught two viruses (not flu) this year, I’d really like to get vaccinated asap, but not sure that’s going to happen.

My son came 1350 miles for his H1 shot. Our clinic gave it to him for the nominal price of $5.00/ he would have paid three times that in Austin. Glad he got it, glad we are all covered. It was one of his Christmas presents to me, without him knowing it!

I got mine last week and everything is fine. The wife has not gotten as yet, But she says, well maybe !!!

My husband (not high risk group) got his H1N1 vaccination for free at work shortly before Christmas. One of my daughters (also not high risk group) will get hers for free at work after January 1st. My other daughter isn’t planning on getting vaccinated because the cost would be out of pocket as the vaccination is only available to high risk patients at her primary care provider’s office. My endo considers me high risk so my shot will be covered by my medical insurance at my January 4th. 3-month endo appointment. At this point, I don’t think I’d bother with the H1N1 vaccination if I had to pay out of pocket at my local health department.

Never have had a flu shot. I do just fine each winter. Seems like the latest news it that this flu wasn’t as bad as expected. Sort of like the Y2K hub-bub in my opinion.

"Sort of like the Y2K hub-bub:

Not to those who were sick with H1N1 or had a loved one die from it. I don’t usually get sick but got both vaccinations when available because of all I’ve heard about illness being worse with diabetes and messing with our blood sugars. Better safe.

I agree afterall: Better safe than sorry. Got my H1N1 on the 4th. covered under insurance at no cost; and I paid $18 out of pocket for a daughter to get hers at WalGreens last week as her insurance doesn’t cover that expense.
