For the first time in 27 years, I broke the 6.0 mark on my a1c. I saw my doctor this morning and had lab work done. He just called me with the great news. My a1c was 5.9. The lowest I have ever gone before now is 6.2, which ain't half bad, but still. Today is a milestone for me. I just hope I can sustain it.
That is totally awesome! Congratulations. I'd like to know what your doctor said. Did he praise you for all your good work? I hope so.
Congratulations, Cinderfella! True it's just a number but that doesn't mean it doesn't feel like Christmas!
Congratulations! Keep doing what you are doing!
My doctor isn't much of a flag waiver for stuff like this, but I could tell in his own reserved way that he was impressed. He has kind of a flat-line personality, but he's a really good doctor.
Great job!
Well done! I'm glad you were able to reach one of your goals :)
Outstanding! Sometimes the best things are worth waiting for :-)
Congratulations! Give yourself a pat on the back; you deserve it. I just celebrated the same event back in March. Was there anything special that you did to improve your A1c?
I just tested a little more often, maybe one or two more times per day (in addition to the four to six I was already doing) and made some corrections as needed. It seemed to help.
Congratulations! I've been hovering in the low 6's for a couple years but been unable to break that barrier myself. I figured it was very hard without pump or CGM (neither of which I use); what about you? Were you able to do it with injections only?
I'm on MDI. I take a split dose of Lantus and then humalog for meals and corrections. It's do-able but it is a lot of work. I hope I can sustain it.
Congratulations that is such an accomplishment and gratifying to have the hard work pay off.
I've watched in my BG odyssey that when I pay attention to some concrete measure that I value (like BG), I tend to do what's necessary to make that measure better. Your experience reinforces that idea. I think your chances to sustain this trend are good. Nothing succeeds like success!
Congratulations!!
Way to go Cinderfella!! Nice job beating diabetes like it deserves to be beaten!
Oh this is fantastic. kudos to you! Just curious, how do you split your lantus dose, do you use more AM or PM or equal split? Also, do you have DP, continue rise in AM, if so, are you able to manage this on MDI's. Do you low carb? About how many shots are you doing per day? I ask (hope you don't mind) because I just wonder if a pump is all that it's cracked up to be, it too seems like SO much work and then there's always the site failures and additional stuff that goes w/pumping.
Great job, Ciderfella. :)
Congratulations! What an accomplishment!!!
Congrats, that is fantastic!
I do an equal split dose of Lantus–half in the morning and then half at dinner. I do sometimes (not every day) fast high but it would still be under 150. I do a bolus of humalog in the morning to bring that down even though I’m not a breakfast eater. If I didn’t, my blood sugar would be over 200 by 9:30 am. Then I bolus for lunch and dinner and make corrections as needed. I can always tell when my blood sugar has gone over 150. So if it does that, I take two or three units. I take the humalog with a quick pen which I have found to be totally discrete and convenient. I can dose right in front of people and they don’t even notice. One thing I did start doing was checking it half way through the evening. I used to just wait until bed time and correct then but I have been doing that earlier.
